The Bethesda Court Hotel, located at 7740 Wisconsin Avenue, has closed. It is one of several properties on the site of the future Marriott headquarters and hotel, and will be demolished as work begins on that project this year. A throwback to an earlier era of lodging in Bethesda, the motel/motor court design was cosmetically reworked into a more upscale boutique concept. This is one of the last remaining motel structures in Montgomery County.
It closed three days ago.

ReplyDeleteI don't get why they dug the big hole off Wisconsin Ave and then fenced it off (the leafy fence). Couldn't they have dug the hole when they did the rest of the demolition? Was there something that needed to be dug out.

9 am to 5 pm is when 90% of all news happens. There might be some fire or police emergencies at 3 am, but a motel that's been closed for 4 days does not fall into any of these categories. It's certainly not "breaking news, when you want to be the first to know."

ReplyDelete12:42: I guess that's why I was the only media outlet covering the fire at the Hyatt Regency a few years ago, the first to report the rape on the Capital Crescent Trail, the first to report on the Ski Mask Gang, only outlet to cover high-speed chase through MoCo in which suspects aimed their car at officers deploying spike sticks, etc., etc.

It's right in the middle of the future Marriott property where everything including it have long been scheduled for knockdown, including the Blackwell and Connor buildings on either side. ReplyDelete7:44 AM The Marriott representatives at the community meeting confirmed Dyer's reporting- Woodmont Grill wouldn't sell. Anything with Tastee was contingent on Woodmont selling too.
ReplyDeleteNow that work is moving ahead towards demolition on the Wisconsin Ave side of the Marriott site, I wonder when they are going to deal with the Woodmont Ave side. Specifically, I believe that the parking lot for the Woodmont Grill, although not the Woodmont Grill itself, is part of the Marriott property (please correct me if I am wrong). Once demolition starts, I would anticipate that the Woodmont Grill parking lot would be fenced off, like the rest of the site, but I have no idea when this is likely to happen. Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the loss of its parking lot will do to the Woodmont Grill business. I would note that since Marriott will ultimately be taking over the parking garage on Woodmont during the daytime, parking opportunities for the Woodmont Grill, especially during lunch, might be limited.
