UPDATE 5:16 AM: MCFRS spokesperson estimates damage at $500,000, and says investigators so far believe the fire was "accidental."
UPDATE 7:14 AM: MCFRS spokesperson says "accidental" cause of fire has been pinpointed on "discarded smoking materials" on the front porch.
A fire broke out at the historic Hank Dietle's Tavern at 11010 Rockville Pike around 3:00 AM this morning. The bulk of the fire has been put out, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer. Damage has not been estimated yet, but Piringer described it as "significant." These photos posted by Piringer on his Twitter account clearly show exterior and interior damage to the 1950s roadhouse.

Actually, Piringer said cause was improperly discarded smoking materials. So unnecessary.
ReplyDelete3:40: Thanks. He is still saying it was accidental, but I have updated the article.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO sad. Interesting that all the news reports this as in Rockville yet stores, businesses and residents who live NORTH of it say they live in North Bethesda.
ReplyDeletei live in kensington but i tell people that i live in north chevy chase. makes me feel better about myself.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Helen's next to it, or too far away to be affected?
ReplyDelete@4:40 It's in 20852, therefore Rockville.
ReplyDeleteInteresting when I googled it just now, it's already showing in Google as "Permanently Closed". Sad.
A sad day
ReplyDeleteDyer, where were you last night taking pics and hope you have an alibi?
ReplyDelete"A fire broke out at the historic Hank Dietle's Tavern at 11010 Rockville Pike around 3:00 AM this morning."

Hmmmm...
This screams insurance scam.
ReplyDeleteSeveral dozen friends had posted this sad news on my Facebook feed this morning.
ReplyDeleteAnd none of them shared your report. LOL
#ScoopedByTheOldLegacyPrintMediaAgain
LMAO @ Dyer saying he has the update. Dream on.
ReplyDeleteSo much for my dream of the tavern being the hangout for Amazon employees across the way at HQ2.
ReplyDeleteWhere will Hank regulars go now? Growlers?
Some Rummy probably hanging around.
ReplyDelete7:49: You don't have any friends, and my article -which beat all new, old and legacy media to the story - had already been shared 120 times and had over 3000 hits before any other outlet even reported the story.
ReplyDeleteDamn, you just got rekt, bruh.
7:58: I not only had the update, I was the first person to report the story. #scooped #MrExclusive
3:15 how old are you?
DeleteBob Woodward would never have told his readers "You don't have any friends...Damn, you just got rekt, bruh." Whatever that means.
ReplyDeleteDyer was scooped by Pete Piringer with this time stamp 4 hours before this blog was posted.

5:08: Your IQ is so low, that you've claimed Pete Piringer tweeted about the fire hours before it happened. LOL. Sorry, chump, I broke this story. Before anybody. "When you want to be the first to know." Remember the other day, when you said no news happens after 5 PM? LOL
ReplyDelete5:08: Bob Woodward was never stalked and harassed by a troll in a County Council/developer PR firm office. Unlike me, Bob Woodward has been lavishly praised for holding elected officials accountable for the last 40-odd years. Subject Bob Woodward to this kind of cyberbullying and abuse, and see what he says. Probably much worse than "You don't have any friends."
You seem to have missed that the hobo claimed his "friends" had shared articles that hadn't even been written yet. LOL
Bob Woodward also never claimed every single one of his negative commenters were a single lone “troll in a County Council/developer PR firm office”
DeleteIs Dyer seriously trying to claim that Bob Woodward never got "hate mail" (what they called harassing communications back in the day), during his reporting on Watergate?
ReplyDeleteDyer is such a snowflake.
Bob Woodward would be appalled to be brought into this brouhaha. He would flat out tell you his interest is investigatory journalism, not unsubstantiated opinionating. He also wouldn't insult someone. Carl would, but not Bob.

6:25: You haven't counted all the individuals who shared it, and 71 shares + 205 reactions in one Facebook group alone. My article had thousands of views before other reporters in the D.C. area had even gotten out of bed.
ReplyDeleteI went to Google and I can't find your article listed at all. And that's on the main search page, not the Google News page.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but no one is going to a magazine for breaking news.
ReplyDelete6:34: That's because other competing websites have paid Google to be in the top of results, and to suppress my site. Yet, because I had the breaking, exclusive report, I still managed to get more hits than the competitors. By the time other outlets posted, it was old news. That's why you'll notice the Post and others having to take a "quantity over quality" approach, with multiple Hank Dietle's articles designed to tantalize the click-happy into sharing them on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteToo late! #scooped
6:34: They can read about it 3 months later in the dentist's office in a magazine.
@ Dyer - I know Bob Woodward. Bob Woodward is a friend of mine and you sir are no Bob Woodward.
ReplyDeleteDyer is rather obsessed with the magazine and his little sandbox disagreements with the local kids.
ReplyDelete7:33 AM Actually, Dyer and others only talk about the magazine when trolls bring it up here in the comments. By trolls, I mainly mean the magazine staff.
ReplyDelete7:08 AM - Robert Dyer thinks he's David Turpin and that he can keep his readers chained in the basement along with him, not knowing anything about the outside world other than what he tells them.
ReplyDelete7:37AM, actually, Dyer brings up the "magazine" just as often as his READERS do.
ReplyDeleteBecause, like I mentioned, he is obsessed with it. Even his repetitive derision of them sounds envious.
What's weird is you being so protective of Dyer and making the accusations yourself.
Everyone says...."sad about Hanks".........but have you ever been there or when was the last time you were there.
ReplyDeleteand.....
For the Love of Goad...........LEAVE DYER ALONE....he is doing a great job
Agreed leave Dyer alone with the jealous tirades against him.
DeleteHe has a digital local news network. If he wants to be a magazine, he'll publish one.
Speaking of "the Network", how come you didn't copy this article to your Rockville blog, like you usually do? Just about all Bethesdians and Rockvillains agree that Hank's was in Rockville.
ReplyDelete11:09 AM Looks like I'm not the only one who reads several of Dyer's MoCo news sites! They give me a quick read of everything happening around MoCo.
ReplyDeleteThe Network Effect!
