First residents move into The Brody apartments in Bethesda (Photos)

SJG Properties has successfully delivered The Brody apartments at 4901 Montgomery Lane in downtown Bethesda. The first residents are now moving in, and the construction fences have been removed. Some minor work is being completed inside the building. You can see a couple of trees on the rooftop, and there is a public art piece on the small plaza outside the lobby entrance.

The placement of your ad implies, intentionally or not, that the Brody should not have been built.

Is this a hard opening or just a soft opening?

I like the scale of this building. It compliments the neighborhood quite well. I think the sculpture is a bit small for the plaza, but the small pocket park is a nice place to pause when walking over to the library. The brick detailing, and large windows are very nice. Overall I think SK+I, a local design firm, did a nice job.

I noted that the landscaping contractor has not yet replaced the landscaping in damaged grass area on the south side of the street when the new curbs were put in. The north side looks great in front of the new building, but I sure hope they spend some money to at least restore the public grass areas on the damaged south site. Not very neighborly if they don’t.

I have said this before, but I think this is a great example of a tree lined pedestrian friendly street. Lots of nice benches, pocket parks, street parking, and pedestrian scaled lighting to create a great urban residential street.

I just took a tour and you’re right the sculpture is laughably undersized for the space. Poor design scale. But nice.

I can confirm that the grass will be replaced. First the street will be repaved.

Agreed. Hopefully whatever they build on the back side along Arlington and the future ZOM development to the north is as well designed.

Robert, why no reporting on Hogan's MVA's clusterf*** that is threatening to disenfranchise tens of thousands of voters across our state today?

Speaking of disenfranchisement, why is the MoCo GOP disenfranchising Republican voters by not holding contested primaries?

Wonder if Bob the Builder will still get a MPDU at the Brody after he wins a council seat today?

  10. 7:25: No one is being disenfranchised = you'll fill out a provisonal ballot at worst. All of the MVA voter registration activity was a Democratic Party idea, so they've got to take some of the blame. Anyone who thinks the MVA is an efficient place to handle important documents should have had their head examined.

Having said that, if tonight's results favor the political machine, you can be sure conspiracy theories will abound.

    Well, sure...from you.

In my recent dealings with the MVA, I've found them to be quite efficient. License renewed in just 10 minutes. Lost license replaced in 40 minutes. Far more efficient, and with fewer errors, than dealing with a bank, credit card company or telephone/cable/internet company.

"All of the MVA voter registration activity was a Democratic Party idea"

You are referring to INITIAL registration.

The problem was with updating existing registrations for voters who had moved.

Making voter registration as difficult as possible is a Republican idea.
