Invisalign closes at Westfield Montgomery Mall

Invisalign is the latest business to fail in moribund Montgomery County. The store, located in Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, wasn't able to last even one year. Montgomery County has suffered a net loss of over 2100 retail jobs since 2000, according to the Maryland Retailers Association.

  1. Minor correction: From Silicon Valley Bizjorunals: Shares of Align Technology Inc. closed down 6.67 percent Tuesday after the company said it will close all of its Invisalign stores.

The stores were opened in the fall of 2017 as a way to match consumers with Invisalign doctors, or those that are trained in using the San Jose-based company's teeth-straightening system.

But they triggered a complaint by SDC Financial LLC and SmileDirectClub LLC that the stores violated a non-compete agreement. An arbitrator agreed and the store closures come as a result of that decision.

They need more movie theaters in the mall. That'll do it.

No way that place was going to last. Huge space and I never saw actual potential customers, just employees standing around.

    Great product though.

  5. Invisalign was lying to their patients and directing them to a select few providers who were paying to be selected. Not every dentist who did Invisalign could send their patients there. good riddance with that awful store!
