A demolition crew made short work of a set of single-family homes in the 7500 block of Arlington Road on Friday. It's the end of an era for that remnant of what used to be a single-family home neighborhood, but has been redeveloped over time due to its close proximity to the Bethesda Metro station. Yesterday's demolition was to make way for the future Maizon Bethesda apartments.
Perhaps you could have included renderings of the proposed design.

DeleteThe correct term used in the building industry is demolition, not destruction, which is normally reserved for natural disasters. Buildings aren’t voluntarily destroyed, they are carefully demolished, often pre-sorted for recyclable and salvageable materials, and removed from the site.
ReplyDelete7:33: The correct term is used in the article. Headlines have their own job to do, and the piles of debris and rubble certainly qualify as destruction on Arlington Road. Trying to find any irrelevant detail to criticize is the hallmark of a troll.

ReplyDeleteNothing was destroyed. Older single family homes, long used as a rag tag assembly of offices, are being demolished to make way for a beneficial, higher density project.
You seem to take pleasure trying to deride every good thing that is happening in this town. I have heard the term “balloon popper” used as someone who constantly seems to take pleasure on looking at everything with a negative attitude.
Why not describe the benefits of this higher density, well located project, instead of leading off with tales of destruction?
9:32: I have not criticized this project. If anything, it is too small given its ultra-close proximity to Metro. Capturing photos of dramatic neighborhood change and a large swath of demolished homes is hyperlocal news at its best.
