A new mural is being painted on the south wall of the DoubleTree Bethesda hotel, near the corner of Cordell and Wisconsin Avenues. It's an interesting location, because directly below the wall is a tiny restaurant that was once home to the famous Little Tavern. Constructed in 1955, it is one of the few that remain of the hamburger chain's distinctive buildings in the region. What do you think about the murals that have been painted around downtown Bethesda in recent years?
Everyone who has any bit of interest in this block has seen this already.
ReplyDeletethat chinese place is a dump/eyesore - please paint over it.
ReplyDelete7:20: That's a frontrunner for Dumbest Comment of the Year, old sport.
ReplyDeleteHow come you didn't mention the name of the "tiny restaurant"? It has been Golden House Chinese carryout for many years now.
ReplyDeleteTo those new to the area (welcome!), the chinese place is in a classic Little Tavern location. Leave it be.
ReplyDeleteI love hummingbirds.
ReplyDeleteThe hummingbird brain is 4.2% of its body weight – this is the largest, in proportion, of the wild bird group.
The adult human brain is about 2% of the total body weight.
A little surface parking lot right there. That's an uncommon site these days as most of the stand alone restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue (Pizza Hut, Hot Shoppes, etc.) have faded away.
ReplyDeleteMurals and art have been hit or miss downtown recently.
ReplyDeleteI love the NY skyline mural on Cordell (at least it's fun), but the painting at the Metro Center didn't fit at all and the mural on Arlington is junk.

He doesn't want to trigger an Aspie Meltdown in his hero, by mentioning that the name of this place is Golden House.
Looking forward to Megan Rapinoe bodyslamming Robert Dyer through the counter at Golden House!

ReplyDeleteHuh?
11:44 AM You never comment on the actual topic of the article.
ReplyDeletePlenty of creepy local bloggers, but Dyer isn't among them.
I for one would love to hear more about creepy local bloggers. I read about four local blogs outside of the SNN and want to hear about which on earth is creepy and why 11:44
DeleteDyer lives in such a cool neighborhood...
ReplyDeleteIs this mural part of the renovation of the Double Tree to become a new Tapestry Collection by Hilton? Or is this sponsored by some other entity, like one of the Bethesda Arts groups?
ReplyDelete7:54: It is not listed under the official Bethesda UP mural projects.
ReplyDeleteGolden House is great. Good food for take out. Always busy. I hope it stays.
