PNC Bank opening at Artery Plaza in Bethesda
The banks just keep on opening in downtown Bethesda. PNC Bank is opening a new branch at Artery Plaza, located at 7200 Wisconsin Avenue.
This does not amount to the addition of a bank in Bethesda. PNC moved its branch roughly across Wisconsin Ave to this location. I believe this is a bit north of what was Artery Plaza.
Yes, the new plaza will be more open, with multiple areas of seating, some of it terraced to face a performance area. The renderings showed umbrella tables along both building edges, but I assume that is contingent on future restaurant tenants. There are four large planters and shade trees, and a drink rail along one stepped edge. Custom art bike racks and a large six foot tall freestanding 7200 building address are planned. Lastly, the new design will include the separated two way bike and bike signal across Wisconsin.
Too bad they couldn’t get a restaurant, and yes PNC Bank is just relocating from across the street. Interesting to see who will move into the old PNC Bank space. A developer just bought that bank, and now control the entire street frontage on that block. They stated it was just an investment, but at a zoned height of 250’, I’m sure it is being marketed heavily, as it is well located, with street frontage on three sides of a long block.
Here's the scoop on the former PNC building. It was purchased by Guardian, who also owns 7201 Wisconsin Avenue (the building with Modells and the Panera Bread Restaurant). Clearly they have ambitions for greater density on the lots, much like what Carr is building across the street.
Isn't Artery Plaza being demolished? I guess this is just a pop-up, until all the rich are completely gone from Montgomery County.
