Syd's Cakes + Bakes closed at Montgomery Mall
Well, that was quick. Syd's Cakes + Bakes, a.k.a. Syd's Bakery, has officially closed in the food court at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. They had only opened at the end of July, after the demise of predecessor Shilla Bakery. A third bakery, Patisserie Manuel, is set to open next month in the food court, but not here. For now, a generic "Coming Soon" wall has been installed over the Syd's space.
DUH. The next one will fail too. Nobody nobody nobody goes to the mall for a bakery. Hell, Mrs. Fields didn't make it at MoMall.
ReplyDeleteMall rents are astronomical, requiring massive volume.
ReplyDeleteEveryone in Bethesda pretends to be on low carbs. Hard for a bakery to hide the fact that's what they are all about. High carbs and gluten.
ReplyDeleteIts been at least 10 years since I last walked inside that mall. Wonder if Dyer is there more than twice a week?
ReplyDeleteWell yea. It isn’t as though he has anything else to do
DeleteWhen I go to that mall it's for the food court alone. The only other store I've bought anything from going back three years is Lolli and Pops. Although Henry's Sweet Retreat right here in real Bethesda carries the same stuff, including the regional sodas that I love.
ReplyDelete7:37am they did no such thing.
ReplyDeleteHow's the new gym in Sears doing? Lol
Proud local bakery proudly closes in food court.
ReplyDelete5:02 AM Sorry! You are wrong there. Mrs. Field's was a long standing tenant at many malls across America, even MM. They just ran their course and shutdown mall outlets everywhere. Miss them dearly.
ReplyDeleteIs that the place that was started by 2 local people who graduated from high school in MoCo? Or am I mixing it up with another place in the mall?
ReplyDelete1:33 PM Everyone graduated from high school in MoCo
