Great news for fans of Chef Tony's in Bethesda - and greater news if you live in The Promenade on Pooks Hill. Chef-owner Tony Marciante will be opening a new restaurant in The Promenade in 2020. Known and highly-rated for its great service and commitment to fresh, high-quality seafood, Chef Tony's has been recognized as one of the top restaurants in downtown Bethesda for many years.
The new restaurant will be located in the existing restaurant space in the co-op condominium building. That restaurant closed about a year ago. The Promenade's Board of Directors has been seeking a new tenant, and one that would provide a top-notch dining experience. They employed restaurant consultants to assist in their search.
Marciante's Promenade venture is tentatively scheduled to open in mid-to-late 2020. The Nathan Landow-developed building is like a luxury cruise ship on land, and now sweetens its extensive on-site amenities with fine dining from one of the top restaurateurs in Bethesda.
I have to wonder, from an economical point of view, is it financially feasible to open a restaurant in a secluded condo building? I imagine a good 3 (or more) out of 4 who visit the restaurant will be building residents.
ReplyDeleteTony has huge following. Location not as important. Folks will follow and also gain new customers in the building. #genius
ReplyDeleteIs this paid placement? Chef Tony's is OK, but nothing more. As evidence of that, at 8am on Friday I can get a reservation for a table for tonight at any time I want. It's a small place and he can't fill it on a Friday night.
ReplyDelete5:14: Chef Tony has (out of 5) 4.7 stars on Facebook, 4.4 on Google, 4.5 on TripAdvisor and 4 stars on Yelp, so I would say that is better than just "OK."
ReplyDeleteHave you ever eaten there?
DeleteQuality of the food doesn’t always translate to business. A telling sign they have groupons.
ReplyDeleteI've eaten at Chef Tony's MANY times. Very consistent - generous portions -- always the freshest seafood well prepared. Nice service -- the type of nicer local restaurant with fair prices from a true local chef owner that you just don't get around the DMV any more.
ReplyDeleteThe food and everything has been great whenever I visit chef Tony’s. Unfortunately as 6:40 mentions that’s not always a sign of success, though he has stuck around a bit and plans to continue with the new restaurant. Groupons are always a bad sign indeed.
DeleteBig, big, big!
ReplyDeleteHeil Dyer. Heil Trump
DeleteIsn’t the current location scheduled for tear down when its lease expires bc the new high rise?
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed Chef Tony's for years. His food is delicious and in good portions and with all of the sides. Calamari is the best! It is a perfect place to take my growing nephews and families with their taste for good seafood.
ReplyDeleteLots of restaurants use groupons or other coupons, it may be expected now. See IRicchi, Old Anglers Inn,and many others. That says only that they are savvy in the restaurant business.
I think Chef Tony will do well anywhere. With about 2,000 people in the Promenade and who knows how many others in the neighborhood, he will serve that neighborhood well.
Calamari is the best !!
