Nothing Bundt Cakes coming to downtown Bethesda

Bethesda's new year is starting off on a decidedly retro note. Days after interpretive signage at a new Capital Crescent Trail plaza on Bethesda Avenue touted the car culture and automotive sales history of Bethesda, the 1950s classic Bundt Cake is now arriving via time machine at the Rosedale Park apartments. Nothing Bundt Cakes has leased space in the building at 8209 Wisconsin Avenue to open a bakery, according to signage posted in the windows.
Nordic Ware trademarked the Bundt Cake name for its cake molds in the 1950s. Sixty million Bundt Cake pans have been sold in North America since, according to the manufacturer. Nothing Bundt Cakes is a separate entity, a bakery chain founded by Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz in 1997. The Bethesda location is scheduled to open this spring.

  3. Our child's daycare provider gave us some of their cakes for Christmas! We tried a classic lemon bundt and a carrot cake bundt, both were delicious.

Really “Roald”? Are you actually going to shop there?

Actually they start at $25 for a frosted 8” cake, $35 if decorated. Larger are available as well. They also have mini cakes, about the same size as a Georgetown Cupcake for $4.75 each, $41 for a dozen. Yes it is a bit spendy, but not unreasonable for a special event, or perhaps even a MoCo election victory party.

I have it on good authority that the bundt cake was a personal favorite of Jackie Kennedy.

Robert sure does love the 1950s. What was his favorite part?
    Jim Crow? Lynching? Voter suppression?
For all his being a snot nosed brat about boomers he thinks he is one. Isn’t that right Old Sport?

Why not mention that the location chosen is retail poison? Cake prices mean nothing - parking and location, location, location. Not a winner.

How many other places have come and gone within a year.

Can you even name the other stores?

  15. Thanks for the info, Suze.
There was a woman in Silver Spring who made the most decadent lemon bundt cakes and sold them only at her church's bake sales. I'm always on the hunt for a good lemon cake. :)

Why so against bunt cakes? Can’t you just pour a red velvet batter into a bunt pan?

Sure, Why not? Just don’t bunt with two strikes.

  19. Clearly none of you haters have had a nothing Bundt cake. They are absolutely delicious. I’ve been lucky enough to have had a slice from three of the flavors over the holidays and each was better than the other. These are not your grandma’s Bundt cakes!
