Modell's to close in Bethesda after filing for bankruptcy

The clock has run out on Modell's Sporting Goods at 7201 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda and 20900-B Frederick Road in Germantown. Coronavirus was simply the capstone in a series of unfortunate events that have battered sales, the company told the New York Times as it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A closing sale is now underway at both locations. Longtime residents will remember previous tenants Herman's and Lowen's Toy Store, both of which are now defunct.
