Marriott stops Bethesda HQ construction after workers test positive for coronavirus

Marriott International's decision to proceed with construction of its relocated Bethesda headquarters amidst a coronavirus pandemic was hardly unique in the development industry. But along with its decision to furlough thousands of employees as the travel industry tanks, the continued scenes of dozens of construction workers clustered close together at the Wisconsin Avenue site sparked controversy online. Today, work did in fact stop on the project, however, after two employees of a subcontractor tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus, Bethesda Magazine reported.


The site will now be disinfected by a special cleaning firm, but when you look at the size of the project and the thousands of crevices and tiny parts, that sounds like an almost impossible task. Here is a look at where the project stands as of today's halt to construction.
