Kumon Math and Reading Center coming to Westwood Shopping Center in Bethesda

Kumon Math and Reading Center is taking over the vacant SunTrust Bank space at the Westwood Shopping Center at 5450 Westbard Avenue in Bethesda. Most likely, this is the current Kumon at the Westwood Center II mini-mall moving across the street, as that building is facing demolition to clear the way for an assisted living senior housing project.

Kumon was founded in Japan in 1955, when teacher Toru Kumon developed a set of worksheets that helped his own son, Takeshi, attain advanced proficiency in math. His worksheets inspired those used by the Kumon centers worldwide today. As the company says, "Right at this moment, someone, somewhere around the world, is learning with Kumon."
