Westbard Domino's Pizza closes

The announcement was inevitable, but it's still the end of an era for pizza fans in the Westbard area of Bethesda. Domino's Pizza has closed at 5110 Ridgefield Road in the Westwood Center II mini-mall. The pizzeria has a long history in the area dating back to 1990, when the store first opened on Butler Road. After a heated controversy over the traffic impact of delivery vehicles' use of the Butler-River Road intersection, the store relocated to the Westwood Center II.

That bit of context is necessary to appreciate how Domino's Pizza Team Washington fondly refers to "our beloved River Road store" in a statement about the closure. Team Washington claims that Westbard-area customers will be able to order from the downtown Bethesda Domino's at 4817 St. Elmo Avenue (301-913-5700) and Tenleytown Domino's at 4539 Wisconsin Avenue NW (202-362-7500). There are plans to reopen the store in a new Westbard-area location later in 2022, but Team Washington has not publicly announced the new address as of this time.
