Aldi opens today at White Flint Plaza (Photos)

Montgomery County's newest Aldi grocery store opens today, February 24, 2022 at 5110 Nicholson Lane in the White Flint Plaza shopping center. It replaces Shoppers Food Warehouse there, and is not far from the existing Rockville Aldi store at Congressional Plaza. Yesterday, workers were making final preparations for today's grand opening:

This is progress? Aldi is a terrible grocery store; little more than a super-sized 7-11.

I mourn the loss of the Shopper's Food Warehouse that used to occupy the space. Aside from it's stocking all sorts of items not found in other area supermarkets, Shopper's had the best glazed doughnuts in the D.C. area. Always freshly made, gigantic, flavorful, and at literally half the price you'd pay for one of Dunkin's or Krispy Kreme's tiny, chemical-infused, flavorless versions.

Not sure when the last time (if ever) you shopped Aldi but the food is fantastic and the prices are unbelievably low

I liked Shoppers too. At one point they had some pretty good managers. For example on the morning after the Duracho storm a decade ago, I remember SFW having pallets of ice all ready for the folks with no power.

Aldi is okay but the stores that I have been to are always a wreck and chaotic.

Ooops. "Its," the possessive, not the contraction. My apologies.

Aldi is a cut rate German Grocery Store. It’s move in to any shopping center is not a sign of progress…………

@9:35 doesn't sound even a little bit like a PR flack. Nope, no at all.

  7. Loved those Shopper's donuts, but Aldi's is the bomb! And, now it's closer to me. Have you seen those Aldi's cashiers? Best in the business.

  9. If you like Aldi's, you'll love Lidl. Like Aldi's on steroids.

I'm still hoping Wegman's will come to the area. Well, the Wegman's of a decade ago, before they stopped caring.
