UPDATE - 5:48 PM: The story has been updated with further details from the Montgomery County Police Department
Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed robbery in Friendship Heights early Wednesday afternoon, May 25, 2022. The robbery was reported in the 4500 block of Willard Avenue at 1:35 PM, according to crime data.
According to police, a USPS mail carrier had just made his deliveries at The Willoughby, and exited the building. A black male waiting in front of The Willoughby approached him, and demanded property from the postal worker at gunpoint. The suspect then fled on foot.
I am hearing that the property included the mail carrier's arrow key, which opens all of the mailboxes in a specific area, but that detail has not yet been publicly confirmed by investigators. Police say they are investigating the incident in tandem with the USPS.
To all those who have made comments in disparagement of others saying it's time for MD to allow any law abiding citizen a carry permit to protect themselves can take a back seat. It's dangerous now in areas that were never before. I've been here all my life and never remember Friendship Heights and other nice sections like it, this was. A woman was car jacked in broad daylight right outside Rodman's just down Wisc Ave which I posted on this blog at the time. I've been to that store probably 200 times over decades and never an issue. SCOTUS may indeed change NY carry law in the case they have before them which in turn would require MD to follow suit. This creep in the armed robbery doesn't have to wait because crooks don't follow the law. Clearly that gun is illegal. Why should the bad guy have a gun and you can't? It makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteYeah the answer is definitely more guns. What could go wrong?
ReplyDelete2:14 - I think comments like this are part of the problem. That's a very uninformed and silly comment. So, a decent, law abiding citizen should do what in that situation? Should they just nicely? Should you look for a stick to throw it an aggressor with a gun? They are crooks who don't follow any law. Why can't we, who do, carry a gun (and be well trained) if we choose? We'll, that's exactly what SCOTUS is looking at right now.
ReplyDeleteMore guns in Friendship Heights ASAP! Why should only one guy have a gun when we all could have guns? Everyone knows more guns = less gun crime! 'Merica!
ReplyDelete@2:14 AM: Saying something like that shows you're not interested in a real conversation about this. Legal gun owners aren't the people using guns to commit the rampant crime in MoCo. I'm sorry if that fact is politically inconvenient for you.
ReplyDelete@7:19 AM: I legally own and carry a gun because there are criminals with illegal guns in MoCo who aren't interested in following any gun law that someone like you would virtue signal about having enacted. I don't expect you to understand this, but maybe you'll surprise me.
