Strong-arm robbery at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda early Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2022. The brazen, midday robbery was reported at 12:10 PM. A police "resource room" was opened at the mall in August, after a series of assaults were reported at the popular retail center over the summer.

  1. And again and again and again. Elrich won't talk about it but Sully Reardon should hammer him 24/7 on this. When is that debate? That might be must see TV. We have a vote coming up folks. Liberals want this? Dems want this? Independents? No, of course not. But a black man who is more than capable won't get a look in this county because he doesn't have the right letter next to his name. This will get worse or is no one watching the news. Dem cities are being ruined daily. Wake up.

  2. Is the other local website with matching fancy magazine working in concert with Elrich & Co?
Because they aren't reporting any of these crimes that I have seen. It's the old Hunter Biden story playbook. If no one reports it, no one sees it, it never happened. See how that works?

@9:16 AM: That glitzy rag finally got around to reporting on the recent armed carjacking in Downtown Bethesda, but it only got a passing mention in the "Crime Report". There was no interview with Elrich or anyone on the County Council. No interview with Police or update on the investigation either. I guess more cars have to be stolen or jacked for this to be harder to hide or spin away.

This is really happening. It's not in the abstract. We are living with the public safety consequences of who these leftists elected to office. That's right Elrich supporters. You own this 100% and you're willing to give that man your vote for another term no matter how bad this gets.

Montgomery Mall is not a safe place to go anymore thanks to people like you.

  5. 11:07 - And hopefully their cars will get jacked at gun point. It's not that politicians that are the problem but those who elect them. Make sense? Votes have consequences.

What is the description of the supposed "resource room"? Is it a CAS (central alarm station) where all activity is seen on monitors by personnel manning the room ----- or is it a place for the security personnel to take breaks? I have yet to see even one security person in the mall or the garage. Where is mall management? They, the County Council and the police, need to make statements. All of the assaults should make the news. Where are the victims? One would think that they would want to make statements. Some of the commenters blame "leftists" for the problem. Well, newsflash ----- it's anyone involved and trust me, they aren't all "leftists".

12:28 PM: Let me know when you see one of these assailants in a MAGA hat or with a legally carried firearm. Thanks.

  8. 12:28 - There are security officers I've seen them. As for statements, they'd never make one weeks from an election. That wouldn't be smart politically. They'll say nothing and be reelected handily.

Certainly not every victim would want to make a statement, especially non-anonymously.

@12:28 & 1:15 Maybe it's a comprehension problem as a result of pronoun-forward education without any analytical skills. The leftists ARE the ones releasing the criminals, repeat offenders or not with little or no bail.

If you raise your children with no consequences for bad behavior what do you get? More criminals or MC Council members.

  11. 1210 on a Sunday afternoon. Bring back the Blue Laws! Should have been home or in church. Nobody should be shopping on our Lord's Day. If we want to MAGAA, then let's remember what America was like last century.
Watch some old movies made when cigs and liquor were kings, and gambling and weed were not. Folks didn't shop on Sunday, and they wore hats everywhere. And yet, they still found a way to be bullied and robbed.

This rampant crime wave should infuriate all MoCo residents. Unfortunately, Elrich voters are willing to tolerate all this crime if it means their candidate/party remains in power. Until they are willing to admit their own complicity in this and vote for another candidate or party which makes public safety a priority, this won't get better. It's only going to get worse. Either the police are there to stop the crimes and ensure public safety, or in their absence it will fall upon those who are willing to act in self-defense with legally carried weapons, including firearms.

@11:07 AM Funny, I don't see this rag interviewing Elrich or any other official about ANY crimes committed in the county. You spew the typical rwnj whataboutism with no direct solution.

I'm no longer surprised that I'm not surprised about this. It's a regular thing now. Congratulations Elrich supporters. You even managed to make Montgomery Mall unsafe through your unwillingness to support strong public safety policies and sufficiently staff the MoCo police force. I conceal carry here because of people like you.

@9:55 AM: You think Elrich or anyone else on the corrupt MoCo Council would actually do an interview with Robert? Robert would absolutely light them up on their incompetence and corruption, so their handlers would never let it happen.

Fact is you're willing to accept a level of crime in MoCo which I consider intolerable. That's not whataboutism from me. You, yes you, own this crime problem and the people/party you voted for do too. Republicans have no elected say or role in MoCo County policy or affairs. I understand if that's something you don't want to accept, but that's on you. What you are willing to accept and excuse, however, is that the Democrats you previously voted for should get another term in office even though they cannot solve the crime problem affecting everyone.

The glitzy magazine/website has gone way downhill since they got a new editor two months ago. No comments allowed, and the reporting quality dropped too. Now they just regurgitate press releases mostly. No hard reporting.

I heard they want to shift focus back to the magazine and selling ads, instead of on real journalism.

Dyer's once again the leader when it comes to Bethesda news.

@9:55 Tell your alias SN to get a new vocabulary. No one has their head buried in the sand more than liberals trying to tell everyone that Rome isn't burning all while getting 3rd degree burns from the economy to the border.

As someone who goes to the mall every single day on his lunch break, I can tell you that the police resource room is empty with no signs of anyone having occupied it.

@9:23 PM: I had the feeling this "Resource Room" would be window-dressing. I guess the most charitable thing I could say is maybe they're out getting lunch whenever you are there?
