Attempted carjacking in downtown Bethesda foiled by police officer

On the afternoon of December 6, 2022, an attempted carjacking in downtown Bethesda was foiled by a Montgomery County police officer. The female victim was attempting to get into her vehicle outside of Don Pollo in the 7000 block of Wisconsin Avenue when a man snuck up behind her. He grabbed the keys out of her hand, and attempted to drive away in her vehicle.

A Montgomery County police officer was parked nearby, and responded immediately. Upon seeing the officer, the suspect leapt out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Stay alert to your surroundings, as the suspect is believed to be still at-large.

Wishful thinking. This was luck, next time it won't turn out so well.

Why didn't the cop just shoot the criminal. He was literally seen & caught in the act of a felony and miraculously got away to do it again. At this point and with the apparently desired result, the MoCo PoPo should not have intervened at all. What ever happened to "Shoot & Frisk?"

Because Montgomery County police are trained not to commit murder. The law does not permit the use of lethal force unless there is immediate danger to life.

To 6:32 PM - you do realize that if the cop had tried to shoot the criminal innocent people could've been harmed. Wisconsin Ave. is heavily traveled by those on foot, in cars, on bikes..... You people who think that guns solve problems amaze me. Like I said, innocent people could be harmed. Happens a lot.

And for those of you who criticize Dems ---- look at your own party!

7:09 Can't distinguish satire and although I'm not 6:32, there's growing frustration with the rise in crime as a DIRECT RESULT of liberal policy. I would laugh if it wasn't so sad that liberals need to blame a political party with ZERO power in Montgomery County and soon Annapolis. Who are you going to blame next?

Coming soon when DC passes their new crime bill: https://6abc.com/philadelphia-gas-station-armed-guards-shooting-carjacking-philly-safety/12530705/

MoCo PD can't seem to catch someone fleeing on foot now? That's sad.

@8:39PM iknowrite! -- At least while watching REELZ channel "On Patrol LIVE", police in those county/jurisdictions actually catch criminals in the act or after the fact and actually enforce the damn law!

If you are concerned, please call or better yet write your at-large Council members and Andrew Friedman, Council member for Bethesda.

Love commenters like 8:06. Epic display of ignorance as Republicans haven't had power in MC in over 40-years.

At least you can see there's a problem and it's pretty obvious that releasing repeat offenders along with demoralizing/defunding/re-imagining the police force hasn't brought the utopia promised by liberal moonbats.

Meanwhile, as Rome is burning so-to-speak, Elrich & Co. is busy pushing "Boosterama" along with a cavalcade of BS in his newsletter and no mention of crime whatsoever.

Lawrence Joseph Hogan Jr. (born May 25, 1956) is an American politician and businessman serving as the 62nd governor of Maryland since 2015. A moderate member of the Republican Party

@7:07 Reading is fundamental but prioritizing proper pronouns over core curriculums has its downfalls. 11:25 said MC, which is an acronym for Montgomery County, but I get it. Hogan, an agreeable moderate, apparently has power over Elrich and the Council? Watching Hogan use the force to make Elrich and the council vote to remove resource officers from schools for one must have been magical.

Based on that premise, amount of mental gymnastics necessary is going to grow exponentially trying to defend Elrich now that Moore is in Annapolis.

"and attempted to drive away in her vehicle." Ha! Stick shift foils would-be thiref!

"MoCo PD can't seem to catch someone fleeing on foot now? That's sad." Have you seen the cops today? Some are petite women and some are oversized men and women. I'm being polite.

"immediate danger to life." You don't think that woman's life flashed before her eyes at that moment? So omniscient.

"Like republicans can solve the problem. Get a clue" Look at what Giuliani did in NYC using the 'broken window' theory of crime fighting. NYC was really nice to live in for many years. Not now. Thanks, Democrats!
