Bethesda's "beer house" seven years later (Photos)

There is some activity at the rear of the stalled Toll Brothers 8008 Wisconsin Avenue project site in downtown Bethesda. It looks like a shipping container has been brought in, and as a result, the gate was opened in the fencing along Cordell Avenue. That gave an opportunity to get some photos from the public sidewalk of the "beer house," a.k.a. Dunmor's Beer & Wine, seven years after it closed for a redevelopment that has yet to take place. And of the rear of the Wisconsin-facing vacant retail strip that once included the Ranger Surplus store.

First time I noticed the backside of that fake gable roof. I sure hope this means at least demo is underway. The broken shards of non-tempered non-safety glass on the Safire storefront are still fully exposed on Wisconsin Avenue and very dangerous. The current land owner needs to step up an make this safe.

I don't take construction sites or activity seriously until a Porta Potty shows up.

This is supposed to be the site for Artena Bethesda, developed by Aksoylu Properties. Now this property developer is real and they have their offices in a chunk of an office building in Manassas. They even have their name on the side of the building. Now when I called to ask about when they are building Artena Bethesda, the receptionist said they don’t know anything or who I could talk to……….

  6. The blue shipping container has been there for years. It shows up on the Streetview image from Nov 2016.
