Here's something you don't see every day in downtown Bethesda: a sidewalk closure with the required notice posted. It is related to the St. Elmo Apartments construction project that impacts Fairmont and St. Elmo Avenues. This particular sign is on Fairmont, and the affected sidewalk segment is in front of 4931 Fairmont.
A Montgomery County law guided to passage by former County Councilmember Roger Berliner in 2014 mandated this sign be posted at sidewalk closures during construction projects displaying the project name, and the projected date of reopening. The law is often ignored, and rarely enforced by the County.
