On Saint Elmo, a restaurant and lounge, is taking over the vacant nightclub space formerly home to Union Jack's and TAPP'D at 4915 St. Elmo Avenue. This story has been developing since last May, when the space was leased to a mystery tenant. By July 2022, demolition of the interior of TAPP'D was underway, as well as what would be a lengthy interior fit-out for the new establishment. Now I can report the mystery tenant is On Saint Elmo. If you are familiar with any of the previous tenants here, you know the interior space is huge, so there is great potential for a successful nightspot at this location.

Bring back the Shark Club
ReplyDelete6:40 - Sorry granpa your disco days are over. Find a new rocking chair.
ReplyDeleteWe need an Irish pub or cocktail bar.
ReplyDeleteWhat, a nighttime economy in downtown Bethesda? Be still my (backbeat you can’t lose it) beating heart!
ReplyDeleteEnticed me enough for a drink
ReplyDelete7:50 AM - Oh, look, it's a Boomer trying to look edgy. Shark Club was several decades after "the Disco era".
ReplyDeleteFinally! That space has been sitting empty for years. I guess once Riemer is finally ousted from the Council and the nightlife picks up.
ReplyDeleteI work in the building above and spoke to the general contractor back in November. They had said they’ve had all kinds of problems getting the space ready and up to code. Wishing them the best of luck but from what I was told it could be a long time if ever that the place opens.
ReplyDeleteI hope it works but it's a giant space with little natural lighting and no patio and it's a little bit hard to get in and out of. Woodmont Triangle could really benfit from a sucessful place there.
ReplyDelete3:44 PM - You need to adjust your time clock "Disco" was prevalent during the eighties and the root of the old foggies that patronized Tommy the Matchmakers old dive. Get a grip, you ain't so hip.
ReplyDelete9:28 AM/7:50 AM -
ReplyDeleteOh, I see the reason for your confusion. You confused the Shark Club (Tapp'd, Union Jack's site) with the Bethesda Yacht Club (back of Holiday Inn on Woodmont). The only thing the two have in common is that they both closed in 2006.
You might get called a "Carpetbagger" for ignorance like that.
Thanks for the scoop!
