Police, fire & WSSC on-scene at vacant Bethesda building (Video + Photos)

UPDATE - 9:35 AM: A police K-9 unit was also brought in to the scene.

This morning around 8:30 AM, Montgomery County police, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad, and WSSC water utility personnel were on-scene at the vacant former Parvizian rug store at 7942 Wisconsin Avenue. They responded to the Woodmont Avenue side of the building, in the closed-off public parking lot behind the rug store and vacant Saphire Cafe.

Officers were seen going into the rear entrance of the rug store. The rug store is one of several vacant properties awaiting demolition for the Artena Bethesda development. This story will be updated if further information becomes available.

Saw an unmarked black wagon with siren activated going up that way this morning. A lot of response for vandalism. Maybe the DC fugitive is there.

  2. 7:07: K-9 certainly suggests they think someone might be in there. I'm curious what the WSSC angle is? Water is theoretically cut off in the vacant buildings, I would think.

This was dispatched @ 07:39 as a "waterflow problem." MCFRS arrived on scene and found five feet of water in the basement, seeming consequence of the building's sprinkler system having sometime earlier been activated to extinguish a fire. [Perhaps an eager developer lending a helping hand to urban renewal?] At the time of this call the building was occupied despite supposedly being vacant, so MCFRS requested MCPD to conduct a search of the structure, which may explain the K9 you saw, Robert. The "black wagon with siren activated," was likely the county's fire and explosives investigation unit responding to the scene.

Good thing we have these public services... Paid by from MY taxes whilst responding to those and what they do, who DON'T. #SMDH
