Westbard Montgomery County Liquor store to close December 9

The Montgomery County Liquor store at 5432 Westbard Avenue in the Westwood Shopping Center will close on December 9, 2023. A 15%-off closing sale is now underway at the store. Montgomery County government's Alcohol Beverage Services will open an Oak Barrel & Vine liquor store in the new Westbard Square development to replace this store. Oak Barrel & Vine is scheduled to open there in early 2024. In the meantime, the closest County liquor store is at 4920 Hampden Lane in downtown Bethesda.

With Paul's no longer, one would think the competition would ger a huge boost. But the county ain't into that, they just want control and to mollycoddle the Unions.

Closing before the Holidays? Brilliant! Of course revenue doesn't mean anything to the inept County. They'll just make it up in even higher taxes.

  5. The county's ABS website is a mess. You need a PhD to navigate it. I was at the new Giant on Westbard Ave. three days ago and saw no indication there would be an ABS store any time in the future. Stay away from that area until everything settles down---maybe a year from now. If the county can bungle such a small operation as this, let's hope they never get into providing health care.

Agreed.. Go to Wegmans on Wisconsin Ave. They have everything! Not over priced like Talbert's!

  6. The County's ABS is a mess. I try to avoid it whenever possible. Go to DC of Virginia or elsewhere.

Magruder's on Connecticut Ave, NW is also a liquor option.

Go to Wegmans on Wisconsin Ave. They have a wonderful selection of wine, beer and spirits. Much less than Moco stores. So, if you live in Chevy Chase or Bethesda it's not far.
