Update on new French Press coffee shop in Bethesda (Photos)

Permanent signage has been installed over the storefront at French Press, the new coffee shop opening soon at 4918 St. Elmo Avenue, in the Bainbridge Bethesda apartments. The logo presents an interesting juxtaposition of a coffee invention that is over 100 years old with the modern takeaway coffee cup of more recent times. It's a clever way of appealing to both the coffee purist and the Starbucks crowd at once. In addition to morning coffee, breakfast items and baked goods, French Press will also serve the lunch crowd with soup, salads, and sandwiches. It will certainly be a new perk for residents of the apartment tower.

  1. Coffee shops, pizza places, French cafes, taco joints. My gosh! Can't we get any variety around here? Most of these places have or will soon fail. Yeah, it's definitely part of the food biz but we need places that people want, need and desire. We don't need a glut of all of these but look around, that's a big part of the offerings. Speaking of variety, the best new addition to town in some years is Salt Line. Went there a few weeks ago and everything from decor to service to food was excellent. No wonder they are steadily busy.

You hit the nail on the head!
Apparently, this is the new business model for Bethesda. . .

  4. 6:44 - Don't understand it. One of the most affluent, cultured and traveled population anywhere, who can easily afford a great meal out and we're stuck with a glut of the same same. I think an artisan coffee place is a great idea but they aren't resonating. Yeah, it's tough to go up against Starbucks, we get it. We should have dozens of amazing food places of all types and price points but we don't.
