New Westbard Square Giant tour, and the final moments of the original Westbard Giant store (Photos)

The venerable Giant grocery store at the Westwood Shopping Center closed January 25, 2024, and moved next door to its new Westbard Square location on the third floor at 5320 Zenith Overlook, opening there the next morning. Inside the new store are several new amenities for shoppers, including a pharmacy, a sushi bar, a Ledo Pizza counter, a Ben's Chili Bowl kiosk, and a Starbucks. There's also a special section of locally-produced products. Here is a photo tour of the new supermarket, as well as a look at the final moments of the original store from the evening of January 25:

Regency Centers would be smart to
keep and just update this sign, which
couldn't be erected under the
current sign regulations

These shelves have now been ripped out

Now, let's go next door to the new
Giant at Westbard Square, where
the police are already looking out for
retail thieves

You can enter the store directly from the
3rd level of the parking garage

Signage is rather understated and small

Less square footage than the old store, but
a more-spacious produce section

Sodas - don't tell the County Council!

Mega Meats: definitely not
County Council-approved!

It's three, three seasons in one!

Tiny signage - is it due to
anti-business
County sign regulations?

BTW, you might want to consider changing that diet, you'll be around to blog longer.

  2. You don't want to enter the garage on level one, Westbard Square, to drive up to Giant on level 3. You will need to leave a track of bread crumbs to find your way back out again. Terrible signage. Same is true for signs inside the Giant.

Build a monstrosity that challenges even Olympic athletes and then expect the loyal customers to seek other venues.

  4. The most brilliant thing I've ever seen in a local grocery store are the kiosks for easy pickup for busy families, singles, etc. A Ben's Chili Bowl and Ledo kiosk in a Giant? Brilliant. I can't disagree though with the 10:48 commenter. Ledo isn't too bad but Ben's Chili Bowl is awful for you. Stay on the perimeter of the store that's where the healthy stuff is.

The small signage is still pretty bright when viewed from the condos at Kenwood Place. I think the traffic flow through the garage to the roof needs some regulation since people using the first turn meet oncoming cars coming down the ramp at a high rate of speed. There are only three handicapped parking spaces in the 3rd floor parking lot, but more set aside for delivery pickup and electric vehicles. Seems unbalanced. The sushi bar is good but watch out on Sushi Wednesdays at lunchtime when many Whitman students wipe out the discounted stock! Otherwise the store is bright, clean, and quite attractive.

4:33 PM Not a wise thing to drop bread crumbs, the nearby crows will wipe them clean!

@7:36 - Such a biased comment. Ben's Chilli is on par nutrition wise with Ledo's pizza. In fact the turkey chilli is lower in sodium than the Ledo's pizza. We see where you're going on that comment.

  8. 7:30 - How silly. Yes, saying Ben's Chili Bowl is unhealthy equals racist. Un-bee-leavable! Ledo is much, much healthier than a half smoke with chili and cheese ok? I'm saying that the idea is great and the comment is labeled racist. Go sell that to MSNBC we aren't buying that woke garbage.

Silly? Your comment is quite obvious still. If you think Ben's is so unhealthy take a look at Dyer's diet choices; Banquet, Mega Meats, Hungry Man, and sugar bombs, real healthy 😏. Truly a Foxy diet. Learning!

  9. 9:31 - Stay focused. You essentially say that someone who says Ben's is unhealthy and Ledo isn't means you're a racist. Ledo Pizza is way healthier than any item on Ben's menu ok? Period.
