Six Ways to Sunday gastropub opening this summer in Bethesda

Six Ways to Sunday
, a Sino-Siamese gastropub, will open this summer at 8003 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda. That is best known as the former location of Buon Giorno. Six Ways to Sunday will feature Thai and Cantonese small plates, Japanese whiskey and sake, and a selection of Asian beer and wine. The restaurant is currently hiring for all positions. Construction has been underway inside the building for several weeks.

Out of business within a year. How these places attract investors wanting to pour money down the drain is a mystery.

  4. A knowledgeable friend suggested many of these new restaurants are money-laundering operations. My counter-argument was why don't they stick around longer.

  5. Buon Giorno? That space has been Satsuma for years. Great $1 sushi…I miss them.
Don’t know about this new place, but at least it isn’t another burger/pizza/mexican place.

I think it has a fighting chance. They are one block from the nightlife of Cordell. If they stay open and become more of a bar at 9pm, _and_ focus on higher-end cocktails, it could draw the slightly older crowd who aren't into sticky floors and drinks served in plastic solo cups (Caddie's and Tommy Joes). Currently SaltLine seems to be luring them in that direction though.

Really do need some bars that are a tier above Caddies. Bad bar food and beer is fine in college but I don't want to do that again.

Respectfully to the rest of the commenters, this restaurant should be welcomed into the neighborhood. The chef of this restaurant started a take-home service during covid that was excellent and is also connected with Sura in DC which is extremely well regarded. Admittedly its a cuisine that might be too high concept for this area of Bethesda, but between Ala, Mussel Bar and now this - hopefully Woodmont will start getting some interesting restaurants and less Mandis and Zuma by ninjas.
