Porsche Studio Chevy Chase construction update (Photos)

The window coverings have come down at the future Porsche Studio, scheduled to open by the end of summer at the Collection at Chevy Chase in Friendship Heights. Many of the interior design elements seen in the renderings of the auto showroom last year are now visible. Permanent signage is now in place on the exterior of the building, and is already lit at night. The art gallery-inspired showroom is being opened by the same ownership of Porsche Bethesda at Pike & Rose.

  1. Ironic, with all the "walkable communities" being belched up everywhere, there are more car dealerships than ever around Bethesda. This second Porsche dealer bookending the outlet at Pike & Rose; Jaguar & Land Rover across the street up there; FItzgerald Hyundai, Subaru, and "Auto Mall" on the Pike; Genesis; Jim Coleman Toyota, Infiniti, Nissan, & Cadillac by Montgomery Mall; the Tesla store *in* the mall; Oursman Honda, Kia, Jeep, & VW; Koons Lincoln; Euro Motorcars; Chevy Chase Acura; Volvo; Audi.

A wealth of vehicles being marketed for a place furiously building high-density housing, ostensibly so people can ditch their cars. I wonder if the property developers and county counsel members were fibbing about the developments.

So what is the point of a Porsche around here? German autobahns - cool. West USA with long stretches between towns and light traffic, why not. But the Beltway - I don't think so.

Not everyone wants to commute in a Camry or some other soulless appliance of a vehicle

10:33 I can see that. But kind of hard to appreciate a Porsches functionality around here. Kind of like using a race horse for pony rides at the county fair. Lots of other way to get pizzazz.
