Sneak peek: Mussel Bar & Grille in Bethesda (Photos)

Time for a sneak peek inside Mussel Bar & Grille, opening soon at 4903 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. Here is our first look at the interior of the restaurant, returning for a second run in downtown Bethesda, after closing its Bethesda Row location in April 2022. Chef-owner Robert Wiedmaier will be laser-focused on Mussel Bar, as his two most-prominent D.C.-area restaurants, Marcel's and Brasserie Beck, have closed earlier this year. No signage or opening date yet, but it looks like a grand opening is pretty close.

Wow, those tables look uncomfortably close together. I wondered how they'd work with such a small space, and I guess that's the answer.

Looks tiny and no bar. Loved the bar at the old space.

    1. 8:20 - Yes, as has been said before on other stories posted here about this new location. It doesn't seem possible to make money here due to the size of this space. You mentioned the bar at their old location. How on earth could they fit one here not to mention a dining room worth the cost of doing? The rent certainly won't be cheap. A coffee shop, yes. A carryout only, yes. But full service? Don't see it.

Tell me you've never been to world class restaurants in NYC that operate out of a shoebox, without telling me...

They're going to be in for a shock of reality when they start bleeding money. The overhead for this space make running any type of restaurant almost impossible. They might do well on the weekends but the sunday to thursday foot traffic post covid is super slim pickings.
