Police investigate another smoke shop incident in Bethesda
Montgomery County police were called to Smoke Island at 7913 Norfolk Avenue in Bethesda last Friday afternoon at 12:00 PM. The incident that prompted the call was termed as "shoplifting." However, an eyewitness reported that crime scene tape was placed in front of the store, and that six police cruisers responded to the scene.
Like a scene out of a cross between The Wire and Breaking Bad, I was merely chillin' out admiring birds by the waterfall green space behind the Beall House on Old Georgetown Rd when a male black "teen" wearing all black on a black mountain bike rode through the bricks, stopped and asked if I was looking for some weed... Btw, I just got a buzz cut and look like a cop or military. WTH, this is really what downtown Bethesda has turned into. #Unsolicited #ProbablyPackingAGlock©
ReplyDeleteWOW! That's half of the MCPD 2nd District.
ReplyDeleteNot counting the useless in-house Sargeants, but well played...
DeleteThere was another smoke shop robbery last Tuesday morning, 10.22. A trio of masked & hooded youths --14, 15, and 16-- pulled a strong-arm robbery, bashing the store clerk in the head as he tried to prevent their escape from the 7809 Old George location, on the outboard side of the street. Within about 30 minutes police had caught all three of the miscreants, who were discovered trying to conceal themselves in the rear parking lot behind the rescue squad on Battery, but it took at least a half dozen police away from other calls they might have been running.
ReplyDeleteI renew my call that these shops be banned form the area. They have been since day one an absolute lightning rod for robberies and hold-ups. Just as porn shops and strip clubs are entirely legal businesses that are nonetheless commercial ventures deemed unsuitable for this area, it seems to me the smoke shops' cumulative record of inspiring crime is compelling argument against their continued presence in Bethesda.
Schools must have been closed on Tuesday, eh?
Delete3:46, heck the same could be associated with NIKE, but they're here to stay. Unless they decide to move (mostly because of crime) out of Georgetown.
Delete1:58. He was 'sizing you up,' similar thing happened to me but I'm a big guy. Its like swimming with sharks all the time anymore.
ReplyDelete"all the time anymore." Good one! 😉
DeleteI was driving up battery lane and saw a mcpd officer walking a handcuffed male towards the rescue squad. Had to be from this. Was walking him from the park.
ReplyDelete12:39, not sure what you were saying, but Nike moved out of Georgetown because of crime and they wanted better Redline (and Purple line) proximity.
