Construction of the new Trustar Bank branch at 7901 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda is now underway. The first order of business, of course, was to destroy the former interior of The Corner Slice, which previously occupied this building. You can get a sneak peek at the interior design of the new bank on the blueprints shown below. Trustar previously announced its intention to open here before the end of fall, which gives them just about two months to finish the job.

Trustar Bank construction commences with demolition of The Corner Slice in Bethesda

That is not "demolition of The Corner Slice." That is "demolition of the interior furnishings of The Corner Slice."
ReplyDelete7:01: Did you read the second sentence of the article?
ReplyDeleteWhich clarifies, as noted, the very misleading title of your post.
DeleteIt would have been better to say, in the title, "Demolition at" rather than "Demolition of."
10:16: Not misleading - The Corner Slice, not the building, was being demolished. Headlines can't be paragraphs of exposition.
DeleteThat's a pretty subtle distinction (Corner Slice vs. building) to expect headline readers to catch, especially considering all of the buildings that have actually been torn down in this area (to make room for new ones) in recent years.
ReplyDeleteThe headline could have more accurately said, "demolition of The Corner Slice's fixtures [or, furnishings]."
Agree! The author presents a word salad that doesn't fit the menu. Demolition is the act of knocking something down or totally destroying it. It's what construction crews do with sledgehammers and wrecking balls. A better choice would have been renovation. Learning?
DeleteNit picky. I can guess why.
ReplyDelete“Interior demolition” would have been much more clear. “Demolition” by itself in a headline means that the building is coming down.
ReplyDeleteDo we really need another moribund bank branch on prime property in Bethesda?
ReplyDeleteYou people need hobbies. Robert provides a wonderful free service and all you can do is nitpick about his headlines? Get a life.
ReplyDelete7:51 ditto here! Thanks Robert!
DeleteI appreciate Robert's work, and have noted that in previous comments to other posts.
ReplyDeleteI criticize/clarify because I care.
