Police scuffle with suspicious man outside of Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School

Montgomery County police, on heightened alert after an antisemitic firebombing attack in Boulder, Colorado two weeks ago, observed a man circling the parking lot at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville at 2:54 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Officers noticed the man's vehicle did not have a student pickup pass displayed. The officers, who were off-duty and assigned to security at the school, directed the driver to exit the parking lot. However, the man then drove back into the lot.

According to police, the officers ordered the man to stop. The man allegedly ignored the officers, and drove through cones into the student pickup line, toward oncoming cars. He then stopped the vehicle, but refused to get out of the car when ordered to by the officers. The man declined to answer questions about his identity, or what his purpose was in being on school property.

Officers then attempted to forcibly remove him from the vehicle. He allegedly resisted, and then became combative. Officers struggled to subdue him, and noticed a pocket knife fall out of the man's clothing. After a brief scuffle, in which two officers suffered minor injuries, they arrested the man.

Joseph Amr Khairy Abdalla, 38, of Germantown has been charged with multiple counts of assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He is being held without bond at the County jail. Yesterday, the court called for Abdalla to undergo a Maryland Department of Health inpatient competency examination. This is typically ordered to determine if a defendant is competent to stand trial. A trial has been scheduled for July 29, 2025 in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville.

Police say that at this stage of the investigation, they have not yet found evidence that Abdalla intended to harm anyone at the school, but did not elaborate on the findings that led to that conclusion. Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada praised his officers for their vigilance and quick action at the school on Thursday. “The actions of these officers shows our heightened efforts to protect our community and the courage of officers to take decisive action for the safety of all,” Yamada said in a statement.

Democrats openly call for violence and we're surprised when the chickens come home to roost.

@7:01 Minnesota illustrates that it isn't both sides. The left is a violent mob with a narrow worldview and bolstered by a liberal press that once again claims "peaceful protests" while cities burn. Step out of line and violent democrats will respond. The both sides argument is used when the defense of bad behavior is weak.

If they were “ were off-duty” why refer to them as police officers, or claim they “were assigned” to working security at the school. This is their own gig, off the clock. They are not working as police officers but private security guards. It’s an inappropriate situation rife with conflicts of interest and other issues, but be honest about it and report it correctly.

    1. 3:47: First, all of that terminology was exactly how MCPD characterized the situation. Second, MCPD does not release statements about matters handled entirely by security officers at a mall, for example. A potential felony or threat to public safety was in-progress, and the officers had arrest authority in that alleged scenario. Third, the officers called for backup, which involved additional officers who were on-duty. Finally, the County has a program that provides taxpayer grants to religious facilities for the hiring of security, and assistance in coordinating their security operations with MCPD.

So, you are correct that it is a complicated situation. But further clarification would have to come from the County and MCPD on what the full nature of the protections being provided at a particular site are. That's unlikely, as it would compromise that security to lay out every detail publicly.

How do both police officers suffer minor injuries in a scuffle like that? Aren't they highly trained, ex-military or pumped up on adrenaline? Maybe one on one a perp high on PCP might overtake or injure an officer but two on one by "off duty" MoCo popo? Will they qualify or file for workman's comp? It seems like this current crop of police can't even get out of their own way even though they might have stopped a slaughter of the chosen people. If you can't even chase down an armed carjacker like that incident involving the owner of the pho place on Wisconsin Ave or not get hurt while wearing all the Robocop equipment pulling some nefarious perp out of a vehicle, then maybe you are in the wrong ling of work.

5:38, even the good ones remaing and maybe even the rare new hires are getting tired of no judicial support by the weak mindset of politicians like Brown, McCarthy, etc. Hopefully our neighbor, PG County will up the game with the relatively tough sounding Alisa Braveboy. She seems less bad and less incompetent in our recent mix of new legislators.

Is McCarthy a weak politician or a legal tactician?
