Update on Trader Joe's in Friendship Heights (Photos)

The interior fit-out of the new Trader Joe's grocery store at 5335 Wisconsin Avenue NW at Chevy Chase Pavilion in Friendship Heights is quite far along. Now we're seeing that trademark wood in every direction in there. Wood shelving! Wood counters! Wood in the vestibule! Trader Joe's loves its rustic wood decor, all right, but what's really getting attention at the moment is the signage that has been installed on the facades of the store's exterior.

  1. I like TJ's well enough but how many locations do we need? My gosh! I would argue we could use another CVS. Yes, they are all over the place as well. But we lost the one that used to be in the Riggs Bank on Wisc. Too bad. That was my secret spot. Cheltenham location is often packed and that pharmacy is the busiest except maybe Wildwood location.

As someone who lives on the red line, I’m very happy to have a Trader Joe’s right on top of a red line metro station.

Too bad Trader Joe's business model is to only rent space where parking is insufficient or difficult. This location and the new location in Rockville require entry into a garage, the other Rockville locations always have full lots (the North Rockville moved from a shopping center that had easy parking). Same is true in other areas of the USA.

There have been a ton of complaints about the parking at the one right near Bradley in Bethesda. Wonder if the plan is to shut this location when FH opens. They have the other Bethesda location that opened like 2 years ago.

7:38 - You are spot on, I expect the TJ’s near Bradley to close soon.

It looks like their goal is to have stores near Metro stations - Friendship Heights, Twinbrook, Rockville.

Rockville and Twinbrook are hardly 'near' metro.

Insider info.: Trader Joe's NEVER "closes" stores, but may occasionally relocate stores to nearby/better locations. TJ's can't sell their great beer/wine/alcohol in MD because of laws there, so buy that in DC or NoVa.
