Silk Route restaurant aiming for May opening in Bethesda

A few more details have come to light regarding the future downtown Bethesda restaurant Silk Route. You may recall it is moving into the building that was recently sold and vacated by Tia Queta at 4839 Del Ray Avenue. According to Silk Route's liquor license application, the owner hopes to open before the end of May 2026. The menu will feature a fusion of Persian and Mediterranean cuisine. Operating hours will be 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM seven days a week. The owner was previously a co-owner of the former Pour Vino N Hops in Rockville.

Interesting cuisine choice for the owner, a company named Nimi China, LLC (a Delaware shell company), who bought the property for $2.1 million.

  2. The problem with that site is that it has looked like it has been out of business, even though it was fully open, for years. The public has long dismissed that property because of that. In recent years I heard nobody talking about Tia Queta. Unless they do major renovation on that building and especially improve the curb appeal, it doesn't matter what kind of concept goes in there they are going to have a struggle getting eyeballs to focus on it.

If they plan to open in two months, I wonder how much renovation they are actually planning on doing. That place needs a serious makeover.

I'm generally on favor of preserving original buildings in the Woodmont Triangle as they have more character than anything new. But this one is in bad shape.
