We now also have official confirmation of my scoop regarding a new retail tire concept from Goodyear on Elm Street. Signage was just installed for Roll by Goodyear, the brand name the tire giant trademarked just months ago.

ReplyDeleteHow many people actually need to look at and feel the tires they're buying? Why would they need make a trip to a showroom before having tires delivered to them, rather than just ordering online?
ReplyDeleteThis is as if Netflix opened a store where you look at the DVDs that are available, then have them sent to your home separately.
I think the big idea is that you can order your tires online, or at the store, and then drop off your car then stroll around a walkable downtown, maybe have lunch or dinner, while they mount, balannce and install your new tires nearby or from a mobile truck or central shop. Much better than wasting 2 hours in a greasy tire store waiting room in some industrial warehouse neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteWhere would you "drop off your car"? The store is strictly a showroom and there are no facilities there. How would a "mobile truck" install your tires while you are parked on Elm Street or in the County garage? There is no room to access your tires or to park the truck.
Isn't the term "mobile truck" redundant?
ReplyDeleteSeems like driving to Bethesda Row, looking for a place to park, then waiting for your car to be towed to a remote shop, have the tires replaced, then towed back, would take a lot more time than just driving to the shop outside of Bethesda Row.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you have your car towed if you can drive it to the store? This is just for new tires, not flat repairs. I believe they will have a valet take your car to a local shop mount and install the tires. This is just an easy way to buy your tires and shop or dine while they are installed. The mobile truck is for customers who chooose to have their tires installed at their home or office. They don’t even need to go to the store, just shop and purchase online and they will come to you for installation.

I agree with Dyer that there is definitely an increased demand for tire shops and tire repair shops. With all the construction going on in Bethesda, contractors are leaving debris including many nails and screws all over the streets. This summer, three screws were pulled from my tire and I needed to have two tires plugged in multiple places.
