I've been reading a lot about concealed carry and in particular how incredibly risky it is for a "good guy" to carry a pistol in a state like ours. Basically, you, as the lawful gun owner, in the process of protecting yourself outside your home, will be the one who ends up in jail or sued by multiple parties. What's better? The non-lethal Bryrna system and/or a knife. Better to stick someone with a knife and retreat, which all self-defense experts teach, than to deploy a gun in MD, when even though it may be a "good shooting", and risk a different kind of harm to yourself. Lastly, great job defunding/demoralizing the police. Their ranks have suffered as a result. Great job voters.

If 'we' don't come down hard on this now, it's only going to get a lot worse.

Parody here.. Let's just turn the tables and be the aggressors, 'jackers & robbers, that way we'll have a better chance of not getting prosecuted!

Call was the armed robbery of a USPS worker, who was held at gunpoint by a single male suspect, possibly a teen, roughly 5’6”, 140lbs, clad in all black with a black face mask. Subject obtained keys for post boxes and for the victim’s postal vehicle. Subject fled on foot and was observed by neighbors getting into a white BMW SUV.

12:13, growing up in DC, back before the Metro we'd "take it to" the people coming up out of the park over on the other side if Connecticut Ave when they'd be coming up the streets pulling on car door handles and looking in parked cars. It definitely had an effect.

Sounds like the Robbing Hoods found their niche in Bethesda.

That's a Federal crime right there, letter carrier should have been packin'. Fed voir dire, Fed jury pool would most definitely aquit.

Jury Nullification will become the next big fad in jurisprudence. Already becoming the scheme in defending Luigi. Just need one sympathetic juror to thwart the process.

9:28 PM Of course it is a Federal crime carrying a no nonsense penalty of five years. But, our luminary legislators tried to pass their own version last year:

How useless these people are. These criminals don't care about cameras. They're dressed in hoods/masks and usually driving a stolen car or using fake plates to go to/from the crime scene.

Carrying a non-lethal Byrna is better than a knife. You can also carry pepper spray or gel, which I think is better than a Byrna since you won't have it in your mind that you're carrying a gun when you're not and take risks that you shouldn't. Definitely don't carry a Byrna and a firearm at the same time. You have police officers who have mistakenly drawn and used their firearms when they meant to draw their Tasers. Pepper spray/gel in a small canister in a pocket or clipped to your belt prevents that from happening. Never let someone close distance to you where you have to use a knife, which can easily be turned against you. However, my recommendation is to carry a concealed firearm, along with pepper spray/gel and a tactical flashlight which has a strobe function. At night, the strobe will be blinding for the attacker. Just because you're carrying a gun doesn't mean you have to use it. It's about having good judgment on use of force as well as good experience to retain counsel before you say anything to the police who respond to the scene. There are companies like the US Concealed Carry Association and CCW Safe which provide insurance coverage along with coverage for legal representation. Definitely get coverage from one of them. If you're involved in a self-defense shooting, make sure that you're the one who calls the police to the scene, or that you direct a witness to call the police if you can't. That matters because the victim is the one who should call and the police will approach you as the victim from the outset if you call them. What you say to the police when they arrive is "I was attacked. I will give you a full statement once I speak with my attorney." You can factually point out any witnesses or evidence at the scene which you feel are important to preserve (so they don't disappear) without saying anything judgmental about them. If you're going to carry, you need to take it very seriously, read up on this stuff and do it right. I recommend: "The Law of Self Defense" by Andrew Branca for starters as well as self defense videos that you can find on YouTube with Massad Ayoob. Just search for his name and watch/learn as much as you can. I've been safely carrying in the DMV for years now.

6:33 - Very informative post and I appreciate it. All that you mentioned is exactly correct. But I believe that carrying in MD is still very risky but that's just me. Non-lethal is still a good option for us thankfully. The Byrna is 100% legal anywhere in the country without need for expensive training, etc and zero worry you'll end up in jail instead of the bad guy.
