Physical media DVDs, CDs vanish at Target

DVDs and CDs have vanished at local Target stores, like this one at Westfield's Wheaton Plaza mall. Gone are shelves of movies, TV shows, and music CDs. In their place are just books and vinyl records. Many of the latter are Target-exclusive editions. A few CDs remain available, primarily by Taylor Swift and K-pop artists. The flop of Joker 2 continues to resonate, as Lady Gaga's companion album to that box office bomb is now on clearance. Remember: whatever you buy, you only own it forever if it's on physical media.

I can hear the laughter from my house coming from the Gen Z and below at your "dyer" shock. They don't use hard media like that dude. When was the last time you saw someone pop open a CD player in public, except George McFlys grandson. LOL!

    STAY WOKE!

Laugh though you might, Dyer's certainly correct about the "ownership" (of your copy) part.

How do musicians make any real money? Doesn't Pandora, for instance, pay something ridiculous like $ .09 per 1000 plays ?

A friend purchased a new Toyota Tacoma last year which did not come with a cd player so he's now relegated to Spotify hell.

No USB port in which to plug a thumbdrive with one's tunes?

I just got a new-to-me Ford Transit van and there is a little hole below the radio. Lo and behold, you can plug into it with a portable CD player's earphone jack. What an upgrade from my old van which only had a cassette deck!!

@9:38 Musicians make money now mainly by performing concerts, selling merch, and through Only Fans.
