Alatri Bros. will permanently shutter at the close of business tonight after ten successful years at 4926 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. The pizzeria's head chef, Wilber Melendez, tragically and unexpectedly passed away earlier this month. A GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses and a final trip home to El Salvador for Wilber received tremendous support from the community, meeting its $15,000 goal with $295 to spare. The support by patrons of the restaurant continued yesterday, with diners packing the pizzeria for dinner. You have one last chance today and tonight to enjoy the flavors of Alatri Bros.!

Wow! That's big news. More out of town chains on the way no doubt. They were homegrown and good at what they did. Food bidness is tough.
Good. Wait times for pizza was unacceptable. The previous name was ok, but glad to read this news... But we all know that it's probably construction related.
They could never be what Mia’s was. The owner of Mia’s was always there, talking to customers and making sure everyone knew they were appreciated. When she sold she retired and knew it would never be the same and she was right. All they did was raise the prices and tried to grow gringos and I’m sure they’ll take over all the space and make gringos bigger. It was never as good as Mia’s
7:44 - That's a great post about Mia's. I had forgotten about that place. It was very good. Pizza has really been stepped up around the area for sure and competition is fierce. Dave Portnoy, who knows what he's talking about with pizza, says New Haven is the best pizza in the country. He's right and we're lucky to have a legit New Haven institution at Montgomery Mall in Frank Pepe. That's the best pizza in the immediate area perhaps only eclipsed by Inferno in Gaithersburg.
If Inferno's in Gaithersburg, and there's a Pizza Paradiso around these parts, where's the Purgatorio pizzeria?
May Mr. Melendez rest in peace. and God's perpetual light shine upon him. Being a chef is physically demanding. Long hours. Unstable business.
