Only one is in Bethesda.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with you (and the USPS) that it is technically in the non-incorporated part of Rockville. Unfortunately, it is currently considered part of the Bethesda media market, so I will continue providing coverage of it. There are at least 2 residential buildings with "North Bethesda" in their names between there and the Rockville city limits.
DeleteSouth Rockville and Beane P.O., respectively.
ReplyDeleteOK, the comment remains. Only one is in Bethesda.
ReplyDeletePlease continue to provide coverage of it, just don't misinform readers by saying it's in Bethesda.
ReplyDeleteI'll stick to shopping local with Bradley party and variety and bruces! Bradley party and variety has a crazy good selection this year and bruces is a classic store.
ReplyDelete10:01: Yes, I've been by both stores recently, and they indeed have quite a selection of Halloween items and costumes out.
ReplyDelete5:58: You have a lot of writing ahead of you if you are going to really tackle this "misinformation" campaign regarding what is Bethesda vs. Rockville vs. whatever. There are many local and regional media outlets covering that area as "Bethesda." You can't just single me out for criticism. I respect the various opinions, and have my own (which is probably closer to yours), but one has to present news and information based on the contemporary nomenclature.
ReplyDeleteClassic Dyer response, pointing at others. Instead of admitting a small mistake.
ReplyDeleteName one local or regional media outlet that has called that location "Bethesda."
ReplyDelete2:10: It's not a "mistake." It's an ongoing, yet tiresome, naming dispute regarding that area.
ReplyDelete2:21 Every single one of them. There's no disputing it is covered as Bethesda by local media. No one but you is making a big deal about this. I look forward to you pursuing this crusade with all other local media outlets.
ReplyDeleteHalloween Megastore used to be Robert Hall. It was across the street from Kinney Shoes, and half a mile down the road from E.J. Korvette's. No self-respecting Bethesdan millennial would get caught dead shopping at those places. It's most definitely Rockville.
ReplyDeleteRe: 7:04's last sentence: How rare or common is that sentiment among Bethesdans? Clearly, to ask shows that I am not from the area; but as I shall be, prevailing sociocultural attitudes are helpful to be aware of.
ReplyDelete@ 9:36 PM -
ReplyDeleteThe identity of the area of Rockville Pike between the Beltway and the city limits of Rockville (Bou Avenue) has shifted during the last four decades.
Previously, the area down to at least Nicholson Lane was "Rockville". Now, "North Bethesda" or "White Flint" goes all the way north to at least Randolph/Montrose Roads and possibly to the Rockville city limits at Bou Avenue.
The (minor) controversy is mainly a generational thing, fodder for Facebook nostalgia groups.
No one covers it as Bethesda. You're a liar.
ReplyDelete5:41: I'm not a liar. Montgomery Mall is squarely in Bethesda, and the other store is in what is commonly termed North Bethesda today.
DeleteNow when George Leventhal told a respected women's group that he was not tearing down garden apartments - with full knowledge that he had approved multiple teardowns of garden apartments (2 of which have already occurred weeks after his statement) - was he a "liar?" You betcha. Now that's a liar.
Covering it as Bethesda news and saying it's located in Bethesda are two different things. If other sites begin calling Rockville town center Bethesda, will you do the same and blame them?
ReplyDeleteNo one is calling Rockville Town Center Bethesda. They are calling White Flint North Bethesda. Blame them if you must, but you can't single me out.
DeleteCan you please take pics of our down town bethesda Halloween stores rather the ones far away? I'm curios to see what Bradley party and bruces have? Seems odd you write a story about the pop up stores but not bethesda homegrown stores.
ReplyDelete6:51 This story was about new stores that just opened. There are obviously many existing stores who have Halloween merchandise - CVS, Rite-Aid, Giant, Party City, Paper Source, Safeway, Bruce Variety, Bradley Party & Variety. I was just covering the comings and goings of retail tenants, as I normally do here.
Delete5:36 AM Thanks for explaining.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't the only thing that's shifted in four decades. Costumes, costumes! Happy Ghouling, All... regardless of store preferences.
"Little Bo Reap"
@6:51 AM
ReplyDeleteOther sites haven't taken pictures of Bradley party or Bruce's either. Why are you only criticizing Robert? Gosh!!
White Flint Mall and the former Staple's space are considered by many as North Bethesda. The issue is that you are calling it Bethesda, if you called it North Bethesda this conversation wouldn't be happening. Are you still confused? You're just destroying your own credibility more and more with all these defensive responses.
ReplyDeleteYeah dude, didn't you know North Bethesda and Bethesda are different places?
ReplyDeleteDoes Bruce Variety have sexy costumes like Halloween Megastore?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your top anonymous troll still hasn't said why he was surprised to see you at the Del Frisco's VIP event.
10:34/10:46: You're saying South Arlington isn't Arlington, and Southeast DC isn't DC? Sounds like you've gone off the deep end, man. While you're down there, read "Big Fat Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them," to learn more about your hero George "We're not tearing down garden apartments" Leventhal.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteDidn't you know Washington, DC is commonly referred to as Greater South Bethesda?
ReplyDeleteI heard that the area around Norfolk and Fairmont is called Langley Park West.
ReplyDeleteLeventhal has my vote too. The guy is totally unhinged, not just slightly.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the video the Post has up where George berates a female staffer?
That's my kind of councilman.
Guys, at least be consistent. You're arguing with Bob about addresses, but you think Rocksy is a cute name for White Flint aka Kensington and Rockville.
ReplyDelete3:22: It's pretty embarrassing that George Leventhal's supporters are posting vulgar, homophobic, harassing, and childish comments on a local news blog. Hopefully he will publicly disassociate himself from the supporters in question, because you are quickly becoming a PR disaster for Mr. Leventhal.
ReplyDeleteyou're pretty embarrassing robert dyer as a local news blogger if you think Nicholson Lane and Rockvile Pike is in Bethesda
ReplyDeleteThey are in North Bethesda.
DeleteYou know Bobby D has admitted defeat when, instead of replying to comments about his inability to identify the borders of Bethesda, he's just bashing some other politicians.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I'd love to see a debate between Levanthal and Tarnation Bob. Can we start a petition for that?
5:53 More interesting would be a debate between you and the developers and media who have been calling that area North Bethesda for years. Is Manhattan in New York City?
DeleteDyer would end up blaming Leventhal for Ebola at some point
ReplyDelete10:28: No, but don't be surprised if Mr. Leventhal blames Ebola for his fumbling of the Silver Spring Transit Center. I think it's the only scapegoat he hasn't blamed yet. But, hey, if he can get away with lying to a respected MoCo women's group, it just might work again!
ReplyDeleteBob, I hope you're joking! Obviously Manhattan is part of New York. That has nothing to do with Bethesda and North Bethesda. North Bethesda does not mean Northern Bethesda, it means North of Bethesda. So is West Virginia part of Virginia? NO!
ReplyDeleteWest Virginia is a state. The area in dispute is not anything. Just a bunch of names people are arguing about. North Bethesda does not mean north of Bethesda. There's no "of" in it. It means the northern part of an unincorporated area commonly referred to as Bethesda by developers, real estate agents, and the media. Set the hot tub time machine for 2014. North Bethesda Market would be a good first stop for you.
Deletei'd love to see robert dyer in a hot tub
ReplyDelete6:13 That's what she said.
ReplyDeleteRobert has officially lost it. Now he's just making things up to support his ridiculous argument.
ReplyDelete6:00: What specifically did I make up?
ReplyDeleteYou made up the fact 11503 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852 is in Bethesda. Pretty simple.
ReplyDeleteowned
ReplyDelete6:52/12:35 You're still back where you started, unable to come to grips with the fact that North Bethesda is part of the Bethesda media market. You've got to criticize all of the other websites and newspapers, you can't just pick on me.
ReplyDeleteYou're back where you started. I you had said the Rockville location is in the Bethesda area then you'd be fine but you said it is in Bethesda. Rockville is also part of the Washington, DC media market, when PerSei opened, did you report that a new apartment building opened in DC? No, I didn't think so.
