STAPLES CLOSES IN WHITE FLINT (PHOTOS)

Staples has closed its White Flint location at 11503 Rockville Pike. The shopping center's other tenant, Casual Male XL, remains open - for now. Saul Centers, Inc., owner of the retail center, plans to demolish the building for a mixed-use development. A sign is directing customers to the Staples at 1531 Rockville Pike. The building itself actually looks new and modern; it would have been a good space to put an upscale restaurant, or large retailer. Oh, well.

Casual Male XL is still open

welcome to Montgomery County, where we won't be happy until every tree is gone and every building is plastic.

This building looks like the 90s. Let's pick up some Eatzi's and go home and watch Friends.

Yes, because when I think Staples, I think trees and public space.

On a 90s note, this store used to be Blockbuster Music in the late 1990s. Yes, Blockbuster was so huge, they expanded to music back then. They actually had a good selection, but it was no Tower Records. I bought Secret Samadhi on CD in 1997 there.
I usually bought from Tower or Best Buy on the Pike.

...you're describing the current site, silly troll. Except you forgot about asphalt - acres and acres of asphalt.

Kind of like what's going to replace it - acres and acres of concrete. Just less accessible to cars, and with a major reduction in de facto public space.

Gloriously free asphalt, a shopper's best friend.

Look at the renderings. There's a forest of trees, landscaping and water features compared to what's there now.

And people are going to actually vote for you for County Council? Shameful.

I guess if you are 2 inches tall, it will seem like a forest.

Since I was only here for the tail end of the 90s, where was the original Rockville Border's? I know this was one of the first outside Ann Arbor.

I'm still mourning the loss of EatZi's.
