Maryland Stamps & Coins' new location is lot easier to find in downtown Bethesda. They installed an awning outside yesterday.
I initially was a bit worried for them, as the new spot is not very conspicuous, and is mainly seen by traffic heading north on Woodmont Avenue. You don't really see it if you're heading south, or turning right onto St. Elmo Avenue. And it is recessed back from the townhouse next to it, so people turning left from St. Elmo onto Woodmont may not notice it.
But the awning is pretty sharp and legible from a distance, so it should help. Maryland Stamps & Coins is moving here from the Connor Building, which is being demolished this fall to make way for a Westin hotel. If you're buying, selling, or getting stamps or coins appraised, this is the place to go in Bethesda.
This is really breaking news, in Mayberry. Actually it's a sure sign that the MORIBUND economy is bouncing back. The money store is opening.
ReplyDeleteActually it is. Why don't you go comment about how insignificant this is on Bethesda Beat?
DeleteA street number would have been helpful.
ReplyDeleteComplaints, complaints. Ingrates.
ReplyDeleteGreat folks at that shop. So glad they stayed in Bethesda.
Thanks for the update.
You are totally right. Robert Dyer shouldn't complain. He should be greatful to live in this county.
Delete10:46: Hey, you sound just like one of your sugar daddies, George Leventhal. During the Westbard worksessions, he told residents they were lucky and fortunate to be able to live in such a nice area. As if residents had George Leventhal to thank, it was pure luck and not the result of their own hard work and sacrifice. #MoCoTermLimits #ThrowTheBumsOut
Delete"Complaints, complaints. Ingrates." - 9:45
DeleteIs the inside as cluttered as their old place?
ReplyDeleteI like that Robert highlights our small businesses!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they have more coins? :(
ReplyDeleteBig difference between holding elected officials accountable

A guy writing a free blog that doesn't say what you want
I know all y'all are smart enough to know that...
Yeah, and we would think Dyer is smart enough to know that people are just giving him shit because of his flawed logic and singular perspectives.
DeleteI rather read Council coverage from one of George Leventhal's best friends. Real unbiased stuff.
ReplyDeleteAs opposed to one of Robin Ficker's best friends?
Delete4:50: "Flawed logic"? Would that be flawed logic like Roger Berliner saying in 2016 that no one would be looking at their cellphone while trying to call 911? Or flawed logic like Hans Riemer and his troll here trying to blame Verizon for the County's own 911 disaster, only to have County employee clear Verizon of all blame for the 911 shutdown?
ReplyDeleteWhose logic is "flawed" again?
Are you incapable of taking criticism without redirecting to someone else? Sure they have flaws. But we are talking about you here b
Delete6:41: Berliner and Riemer have oversight authority over a system that caused two people to die, and you're talking about me writing about an awning at a coin shop as the more important thing? Sick.
ReplyDeleteNo. I'm talking about your being unable to take criticism or opposing opinion. Nothing to do about a coin shop, Berliner, Riemer, or 911.
DeleteRobert- thank you for your fine reporting on the ins and outs of the daily Bethesda news
ReplyDeleteThe 911 outage report was breathtaking. Out for about 2 hours. 2 people died, hundreds of calls unanswered.
ReplyDeleteTurns out it was MoCo goverment's fault, not Verizon (as some were claiming before to deflect blame).
And to top it off, Berliner says he doesn't care that MoCo's emergency alert system didn't tell anyone that 911 wasn't working. Breathtaking statement by Berliner. It this guy tone deaf and dumb? Two of our people died.
Berliner is an example of someone is his seat way beyond his expiration date. We need someone with more energy and willingness to manage the county better.
This is embarrassing. I remember when the county was governed by adults. It wasn't too long ago.
"Turns out it was MoCo's fault, not Verizon's"
DeleteI must have missed this story. Perhaps you could provide a link?
"I'm George Leventhal's best friend and I own the Bethesda Jazz Club. I won't disclose either facts when covering both topics"...so says Bethesda Mag's Hull. Shady journalism at it's finest. What's he hiding?
ReplyDeleteGlad that a literal mom and pop business was able to stay in downtown Bethesda.
ReplyDeleteHa I was thinking the same thing. It'd be pretty sad if it was just luxury condos and "luxury" chain stores/restaurants.

ReplyDeleteFan boys who want acceptance from their dominatrix so badly that they waste time trolling the competition... It's funny that I actually read Bethesda Beat with a bit less respect now because of your constant comments. Don't worry, the more you comment here, the more I plan to echo my comment. How long until others start seeing it the same as I do? Shall we play a game? Oh and I'm not Dyer, I'm much more intimidating in person.
DeleteAnd you want dyer's love so bad it seems.
Delete7:44am buy a copy of the Post or read Hull's daily regurgitating summary of Post articles. Post Says: "Verizon, the county’s telecom provider, played no role in the outage, officials said."
ReplyDeleteIt was all on MoCo mismanagement.
They didn't maintain 911 properly- you'd think this would be among the top systems to keep in shape. And they compounded the problem by not alerting residents for over an hour via Alert Montgomery. Berliner says he doesn't care. I hope residents care enough to replace him. Guy is overstaying his welcome. He has more energy than Reamer, but neither have a clue.
Which edition of the Post?
ReplyDeleteAugust2nd Post:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/montgomery-officials-try-to-explain-911-outage-that-should-never-happen/2016/08/02/798c77d8-58d2-11e6-9767-f6c947fd0cb8_story.html
Near the end it states:
"Verizon, the county’s telecom provider, played no role in the outage, officials said. "
Odd that Dyer couldn't be bothered to report on that hearing.
ReplyDelete"The County did not maintain the system properly."
ReplyDeleteThe article does not support your claim. It is possible that you don't understand what the word "maintain" actually means.
9:26 AM You're saying 911 and its support systems were properly maintained and working? If so, why did it go out for 2 hours, leading to 2 deaths?
ReplyDeleteThis excuse of "oops, it was a glitch" doesn't fly with me.
Let's say it was a mysterious act of God that brought down the 911 system. It still was mismanagement to not alert residents about the failure. We have Alert Montgomery for that purpose. Why was Berliner so quick to paper that over?
I'm noticing that this Council never takes responsibility when they fail. Time and again.
9:19AM Dyer is one guy. Can't be everywhere at once.
ReplyDeleteOther local sites don't cover everything either. Even though they have employees or staff that could.
Robert Dryer is always first!!
DeleteI notice that you seem desperate to blame the Council for this, when they were holding a hearing to investigate this very issue.
ReplyDeleteWhich system "was not properly maintained"? The air conditioning compressor was inspected a month and a half earlier. PEPCO is not owned by Montgomery County.
10:42: "Holding a hearing" after 2 people are dead as a result of the Council failing to deliver basic services like 911 is too late. It turns out that, on the Council's watch, there was no contingency for a failure of the single layer of backup, and mismanagement of funds meant one of the most important hvac systems in the County was old and ready to fail instead of having been replaced. Why do you bring up Pepco? They had zero to do with this, and neither did Verizon.
Delete10:42 AM Pepco is Berliner's favorite boogeyman.
ReplyDeleteHow about having proper backup? You can't blame Pepco for this.
Is it Pepco's fault that Alert Montgomery wasn't activated?
This council always passes the buck, it's always someone else's fault.
"How about having proper backup? You can't blame PEPCO for this. "
ReplyDeleteWhat's the point of linking to an article if you didn't even bother to read it?
@ 10:47 AM - PEPCO likes to boogie? LOL
ReplyDeleteRobert would be the Donald Trump of Bethesda politics!
ReplyDeleteWhy would I need dyer's love when I got 8:09's mom's love?
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't nice. No need to make fun of Deyer and his fans.
Delete3:32 PM So...
ReplyDeleteRiemer loves the nightlife
Pepco's got to boogie
Bethesda is the disco round?
