Delegate Marc Korman (D - District 16) reports that changes are now planned for the Capital Crescent Trail crossing on Little Falls Parkway where a cyclist was struck and killed in October. Korman says the number of lanes will be reduced to one in each direction, and that the speed limit will be lowered to 25. There will also be additional signage.
One issue that is going to have to be looked at by traffic engineers is, how to facilitate cars turning left in two lanes from Arlington Road onto the parkway merging safely in that short of a distance.

This is a terrible idea. Overreaction to what ultimately comes down to an elderly driver being careless.
You're going to create a cluster for traffic, which is only getting worse because of overdevelopment of Downtown Bethesda and Westbard. Wouldn't be surprised if most of the traffic cuts thru Kenwood Forest and then they'll complain.
Why not reroute the actual bike path instead of ending where it does currently to ending further down at the actual traffic light? It'll be a lot easier for peds/cyclists to cross via a traffic lite than where they do now, and this solution would be the least expensive.
So because a few bikers can't obey the trail stop sign, we all get to sit in clogged-up traffic. That's awesome. Bless your heart, Montgomery County. You are screwy.
Then, next we can license both cycles and cyclists (more county revenue to waste.) Then install stop-sign cameras to identify bicycle stop-sign-runners and mail tickets (even more county revenue to waste.)

Great - more bottlenecks in Bethesda. I just noticed that they blocked access to the alley between Woodmont and Bradley after recently blocking access to Leland St. So that's three routes (Strathemore has long been blocked off) between Woodmont and Bradley that are now blocked, forcing all traffic to either Arlington or Wisconsin where it already takes multiple signals to get through the intersection. Who pays for these streets?
Bikers win by not following the rules. Society loses. Terrible.
Why not just put full stop signs on the roadway, and leave the lanes as they are?
This knee-jerk reaction from two 80 year olds getting in a collision is completely ridiculous. There is clearly a war on cars in this area by the liberals heading these departments. Reducing these connecting roads from 2 to 1 lanes like Little Falls and Westbard will cause even further backups, trip lengths, costs of roads, etc.. Thanks for nothing Montgomery County! You all suck!

There is enough land on both sides of Little Falls Parkway to rebuild that portion of the Capital Crescent Trail in a way that allows the trail to travel under Little Falls Parkway. I would suggest a gradual decline/incline of the Capital Crescent Trail at whatever distance is necessary to ensure the grade isn't too steep for trail users. A precast tunnel can be built offsite and installed under Little Falls Parkway along with adequate lighting. This would be an ideal solution because neither cars nor pedestrians/cyclists would be required to stop. A road diet isn't necessary. Drivers win and trail users wins. Everybody wins! YAY!

The trail should be built up on both sides so we can have a sweet jump over that part of Little Falls. If car people are jealous we can build them a loop-de-loop so the jump goes through the middle of the loop.

The cyclist ran the stop sign. There is no question about that. And now we're going to change the traffic pattern? How about more enforcement there to get vehicles -- all vehicles -- to obey the rules of the road?
