Value City Furniture, the Ohio-based chain, is taking over the vacant Sports Authority space at the Montrose Crossing shopping center in North Bethesda. "Coming Soon" signage has been posted on the storefront, and blueprints and schematics are inside the store for contractors to use while building out store. Timpano Italian Chophouse is also making an exit here, to make way for a new retail building by property owner Federal Realty.
Montrose Crossing is located at the intersection of Montrose Parkway and Rockville Pike.
Isn't this in the same mall as Bob's Furniture? Surprising Bob's lease allows a competitor to move in so close.
ReplyDeleteI wondered the same thing.
ReplyDeleteBut Bob's space maybe has a different owner.
Sports Authority was more useful..Too bad they went bankrupt!
ReplyDeleteQuiz time. Name all the furniture stores to occupy the location of Bob's.
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember Herman's sporting goods back in the day?
ReplyDeleteSticks n stuff
ReplyDeleteLevitz?
ReplyDeleteThere goes that center. Crap all of it except Fil-A and Barnes
ReplyDeleteBarnes & Noble and Tara Thai are still good tenants.
ReplyDeleteSports Authority was ok, but I buy most of my athletic shoes online now.
I was never a Timpano's fan.
Can we bring back Korvette's?
Tara Thai is crap, chain Thai food. Barnes is good book store that's about it. That entire center is slated to come down at some point and redeveloped.
DeleteLOL, let's get rid of Pike and Rose and put Korvette's back in.
ReplyDeleteHow elegant, further blurring the lines between Montgomery and P.G. Isn't this the sort of low-rung, welfare outlet that dots the landscape in Bladensburg and Mount Rainier?
ReplyDeleteIt sure is. Good point
DeleteYay! Because the 10,001 furniture/matress stores already along Rockville Pike clearly isn't enough...
ReplyDeleteI guess with their shiny new development at Pike & Rose, Federal Realty couldn't care less about the quality of tenants in their centers further up the Pike.
1:09 With all the new development and changing demographics in that part of PG, I'll bet you that 15 years from now that the US 1 Corridor between Hyattsville and College Park will have higher quality retail than Rockville Pike (north of Montrose).
