Community outrage over the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old student in a bathroom at Rockville High School last week has spawned a rally planned for tomorrow, Sunday, March 26, at 4:00 PM, in front of the Montgomery County Council building at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville. Speakers will include community activists and organizations, and political candidates who will be running in 2018.
While emotions are running high over the gang rape, rally organizers say they're asking attendees to protest with a "firm but calm demeanor" - and to create and bring their own signs.
Many blame the County Executive, County Council and Montgomery County Public Schools for policies and security lapses which they feel allowed the bathroom assault to occur. Those officials' decision to wait several days to comment publicly, their often tone-deaf response, and the sense that they were angrier about criticism directed at them than about the rape itself, further outraged county residents. MCPS Superintendent Jack Smith was blasted for an inept response, and pilloried online for calling parents racists and xenophobes. A petition is now calling for Smith's resignation. It has 1387 signatures at press time.
Smith didn't "call parents 'racists and xenophobes'".
ReplyDeleteDr. Smith said that people need to tamp down on the racism and anti-immigrant rhetoric or in so many words. Is he joking? No, as well as Berliner saying this wasn't our fault. They all should go Smith first. He's inept and a water boy for people who have no problem with illegals being here not to mention adult illegals in children's schools.
DeletePublic schools are required to provide education to "illegals". That's not Montgomery County policy. That's the law across the USA, per the Supreme Court.
Delete8:46 I'm well aware of that and that landmark decision needs to be revisited. SCOTUS either needs to reaffirm that or change it. Doesn't make any sense that law abiding and legal citizens tax money should go to educate those who have not respected our laws and sovereignty.
DeleteLiberals demanding the ouster of other liberals, this makes for some great entertainment on Sunday afternoon along with mens NCAA basketball. Everyone yelling and interrupting each other constantly, calling each other names, it's the liberal playbook.
ReplyDeleteThank you President Trump for approving the Keystone pipeline. I'm going to buy a 70's musclecar and burn incredible amounts of fuel around Bethesda, doing burnouts and idling in the McDonalds parking lot for hours. Those costly charging stations in Bethesda will soon become rusty abandoned eyesores cause gasoline is going to be so cheap.
Also Robert, you called the accused rapist gangmember Henry Sanchez an "illegal immigrant" , not correct he is an "illegal alien".
ReplyDeleteIllegal Alien - "a foreign national who is living without authorization in a country of which they are not a citizen"
8:33 better than the Left though. Huh? Undocumented. Please. Spare us the PC BS. Calling things by any other name than what it is hasn't helped has it? No.
Delete"Spare us the PC BS. Calling things by any other name than what it is hasn't helped has it? No."
ReplyDeleteYou mean the way conservatives get all huffy when you call them on their racism?
It's so funny when Liberals start throwing around words instead admitting their philosophy is simply wrong. Conservatives have no issue with legal immigration which is a stark contrast to Liberals who just want to let them in all no papers or permission required. The term illegal alien begins with illegal because it's not lawful. Hard to swallow I know. Racism has nothing to do with it. Illegal immigration and open borders are soon going to be a thing of the past thanks to Trump. I know the mere mention of our President's name causes a barf reflex for folks around here. Hey, Canada welcomes you. Enjoy!
DeleteYeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin'
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
Of destruction.
Being concerned about safety doesn't make you a racist. If you watch the Rockville High meeting, Hispanic parents expressed concerns about the safety of their kids at the school.
ReplyDeleteThe response from the principal was: "gangs? What are these gangs you speak of?"
"Being concerned about safety doesn't make you a racist."
DeleteCorrect. However, believing that Hispanic immigrants are inherently "rapists", DOES make you a racist.
This rally is very good news.we need to hold Council members and MCPS officials accountable for endangering school children in general and the rape of this 14 year old girl in particular.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding them accountable for their non response. Where was Smith for 5 days?
DeleteI never really follow who the school superintendent is, but I'm starting to see a bunch of articles about Smith now.
ReplyDeleteHe came here under a cloud. Looks like a bad choice.
If you don't have any idea who the superintendent of schools is then you are an idiot.
ReplyDelete@7:46PM "If you don't have any idea who the superintendent of schools is then you are an idiot."
ReplyDeleteWhy? That's an awfully narrow viewpoint. Not everyone has interaction with the school system.
Attitudes like your are more the problem than the solution.
It seems that the Rape of a 14 year old girl in her High school is leading to many people learning who their local politicians are.Politicians such as Council Member Berliner and Council Member Navarro who may be voted out of office now that this case has opened the eyes of the community. Dr Smith should resign also.
ReplyDelete6:47: So true. If only they had the passion in their voices for the girl who was attacked, that they do when they are blasting the critics of their policies and actions. Shameful.
ReplyDeleteThey might walk on a consensual defense. The victim will come under a lot of pressure to drop it. The perps are listed as less than four years older than the victim so statutory rape is out unless the judge orders a medical finding of age. The oldest perp is probably in his mid-twenties meaning medical tests can prove with near certainty the perp was more than four years older than the girl. But no MoCo judge would ever order such a test, so they walk free and return to HS for three more years.
ReplyDeleteThe victim probably has a lawsuit starting soon. MCPS will settle quickly ($2M?). Part of the deal will be to drop charges. MoCo will continue its long slow decline to its ultimate dystopian future. Life is change, nothing lasts forever. Protect your family as best you can.
ReplyDeleteMCPS did create the conditions to allow the rape. A secluded bathroom that locks from the inside, for example.
DeleteThe principal admitted stuff happened in there before, but she never made it safe.
Lack of security Force, etc.
Plenty of blame for the Council and County Exec too for their policies.
"The oldest perp is probably in his mid-twenties..."
ReplyDeleteThe speculation of the Alt-Right wingnuts is spinning out of control.
@8:37 and 9:06 Both of these scenarios sounds about right for Montgomery County.Very sad.

ReplyDeleteMy sources tell me that no one showed up at this "rally".
ReplyDeleteSettlement should be 10 million for plaintiff. This will send a signal that this cannot be tolerated. The principal and superintendent should be fired without compensation. Dr. Smith has abused the system in other Maryland counties before....got to go!
ReplyDeleteBathroom should be closed if in a secluded area and do not turn teachers into your security force!
You should assure parents that students are vetted and older students need a twilight program.
Less than 1,400 signed that petition? Not a good omen for your electability, given that you lost with 30 times as many votes in 2014.
