Steamers demolition complete in Bethesda (Photos)

Steamers has been completely leveled at the corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues in downtown Bethesda. The vacant seafood restaurant is being replaced by a 10-story condo building called, The Claiborne. Among the debris, I saw a part of some kind that has written on it, "Installed by 'Tarzan' & the 'Deer Hunter' 1-17-89." Can anybody figure out what that part is to, and who in 1989 was going by those code names and installing stuff in restaurants?

Time capsule relic from 1989:
Can anyone identify what
this part is, and who "Tarzan"
and the "Deer Hunter" were in
January 1989?

Troll 12 here. Perhaps everyone isn't merely a troll. Rather has Dyer thought that his better than though complex and insistence that he's a world-class recording artist, award winning journalist and always right could be the problem?

Troll 870 here...the only thing dyer is world-class at is trespassing and creeping around bethesda to get grainy photos of other people's work. Without the real businessmen and women in the County, dyer would have no "job" because all he does is document what other people do!

    1. 11:20: I've been world-class at uncovering cover-ups in Montgomery County, and getting giant holes in garage walls patched, traffic signals activated, crosswalks painted, sidewalk laws passed, sidewalks shoveled when Hans Riemer's $6M snow law failed, U.S. Flag Code violations corrected, elevators installed in county buildings that had violated the ADA, and single-handedly saving the Montrose Parkway from cancellation by the Planning Board.

What have you done for the community, you pathetic sack of garbage?

Can you shine some light on what's moving into the former SmashBurger location at Norfolk/Cordell under TommyJoe's?

    Thanks!

  11. 5:08: Watch the meeting and you'll see it happen in real time, moron. It's on video. The elevated Montrose Parkway segment over Parklawn was about to be canceled and replaced with a regular street. Mysteriously, the Board skipped over public testimony, and were about to vote. I rushed over to the clerk and asked why I hadn't been called, since I had signed up well in advance to speak.

The Chair stopped the vote and allowed me to testify. Casey Anderson, who was not chair at the time, had made false statements about the parkway's right-of-way, which extends to the ICC. I set the record straight, and as a direct result of my testimony, 3 commissioners switched their votes from No to Yes, thereby saving the parkway.

Afterward, I was thanked by MCDOT and SHA employees for saving the project.

So, again, what have you done like that to help the community? You remain a pathetic sack of garbage, dumpster diving in Bethesda when you're not picking Hans Riemer's dry cleaning.

You just made a complete idiot out of yourself again.

So why can't you get the timestamps in your blog to show the correct time zone?

He likes it that way. His blog, his choice of setup.
I've got friends on the other coast who go that route too. Opposite-they use east coast time on their PST site. Someone complains there too.

You time would be better spent in educating Dyer about the meaning of words.
    Like "triggered" and "hearsay."

Troll 22 - What's really strange is that his two other Blogspot blogs show Eastern Time.

  17. 6:06: I agree. In fact, I'm trolling the trolls by having it on Pacific time.

To your other point, it was the troll who didn't know what "triggered" means. If someone says I'm a liar, and I respond with the facts that prove I told the truth, that's not being "triggered."

If you want to see what "triggered" means, just check the comments section on today's article fact-checking the fake news about the new liquor law. The MoCo cartel was totally triggered.

The Montrose Parkway has been a terrible disappointment. It saves only a few minutes over the old Montrose Road. It has lots of traffic lights that are not synchronized. Worst of all, it leaves the dangerous CSX grade crossing in place--this in spite of increased freight rail traffic as a result of the opening of the wider Panama Canal and the use of double-stack freight trains.

Lol Dyer and the imaginary MoCo cartel. Make sure your tin hat is on so they can't erase your brain!

Anyway, the real reason Dyer uses Pacific Time is so that he can claim he released news articles before anyone else, which is just really sad.

  20. 8:06: The "imaginary MoCo cartel" that provides over 80% of the campaign contributions for the Montgomery County Council - if you think those millions of dollars are "imaginary," they've already erased your brain, dumbass.

7:58: There are 2 main reasons the Parkway disappoints so far:

First, as the MCDOT engineers told me themselves, the design of the parkway was compromised for political reasons. The expertise of our engineers was trumped by meddling from politicians. You may also be aware that the county gave away the off ramp to SB MD 355 to Federal Realty. You can see it labeled "Rockville Freeway" on the land records of what is now Pike & Rose. Long traffic lights and a compromised right-of-way - and lower speed limit and capacity than originally planned - make the road less effective.

Second, the parkway will not reach maximum function until it extends at least to Connecticut Avenue, and eventually to the ICC, as originally planned. Fortunately, the right-of-way (the Rockville Facility) remains open for those future extensions.

  21. Anonymous8:56 AM

The former Rockville Facility is now Matthew Henson Park. When the park was dedicated, we were told it would remain parkland "as long as the grass shall grow and the rivers shall flow" -- just as Andrew Jackson told the Cherokee Indians.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 8:56: Or so Casey Anderson tried to claim.

Fact check: The move in Annapolis to turn it into a park also included a permanent loophole that allows it to be converted back into a road at any time in the future.
