Duball, LLC's Cheval Bethesda ultra-luxury condo tower is currently about 4 months away from delivery, according to the firm's president, Marc Dubick. The first residents will likely move into the building, which is located at 4960 Fairmont Avenue, in February. Interior elevators are now operational, and the exterior construction elevator has been removed. A leasing agent has been brought on board to seek a tenant for the tower's 7000 SF of ground floor retail space.
The 17-story tower contains 72 condo units. Prices are in the ultra-luxury tier: from the $900,000s to over $2.5 million. Cheval Bethesda is the tallest condo building in Bethesda.
Of the recent new development, I think Cheval looks pretty nice.
ReplyDeletePlease don’t let the downstairs retail be a bank.
No more banks please #nothankstomorebethesdabanks
DeleteCan a blogger afford a condo in the Chevel or will Dubick give you one out of the kindness of his heart?
ReplyDeleteSeems obvious that Dyer works for Duball.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Dyer only comments under his own name between midnight and 3 AM anymore.
ReplyDeleteI want one of those parking spaces on levels 2-4 that have a glass windows with a nice view for my car so it can look outside when I am not driving it. It is a shame that they were unable to place the parking underground. Yes, I know that the building is adjacent to an existing above ground parking deck, but I suggest that a more clever architect could have overcome that issue, and have living units, offices, or amenity spaces on all levels that are above grade. Maybe a courtyard on the west side adjacent to the existing deck would have helped.
ReplyDeleteThe slick metal facade is nice and crisp, with many elegant details, but lots of dark grey makes for a rather drab composition. The original rendering showed a much more kinetic design with some anglular sloping glass panels adjacent to the balconies to create a more dynamic profile. They simplified the design, deleted the angles and now have simple rectangular wrap around balconies at the corners. Much less interesting than as originally designed, like a value engineered revision. l’m not sure how this substantial design change was approved as it really diminishes the project.
I also hope they can find a restaurant or cafe tenant for the base. Another bank, real estate office or stock broker would be unfortunate. This part of town, along Old Georgetown, could really use a nice destination restaurant.
Echoing those asking for some decent retail. The new stuff is all chains.
