The Hyatt Regency Bethesda hotel has created two new restaurant spaces on the Wisconsin Avenue/plaza side of the building during its massive renovation project. You may recall I
recently reported an insider tip that one of those spaces would be a coffee shop. Now I have confirmed it will not only be a coffee shop, but the biggest name in coffee:
Starbucks.
An in-house Starbucks will not only be a perk for hotel guests, but also another place to grab a coffee on the way to Metro in the morning (assuming it's running that day). Starbucks at the Hyatt will compete with another strong coffee contender at the Metro Center, Dunkin' Donuts. Starbucks will be at the front, right corner of the hotel facing Wisconsin Avenue. A second, prime 1700 SF space facing the Bethesda Metro Center plaza is still available for lease at the Hyatt.

ReplyDeleteI like it a lot. Opening up the exterior to more retail frontage, newer modern design, etc. the neon lights though are really tacky.

9:38: Not only are you just plagiarizing that from the Washington Post article, but that article was very biased in favor of the HOC. I've read the legal filings; there is no such "leaked" information in them. Total malarkey. Did the reporter fact check HOC's claims?

ReplyDelete5:12: A corrupt alliance that includes a small faction within the County Democratic Party, certain developers that engage in pay-to-play, and so-called "non-profits" whose staff get kickbacks at taxpayer expense, which they funnel back to the campaign accounts of the County Council members who approve the expenditures. Most of these activities, obviously, are illegal. The cartel, along with the local media outlets they control, get the candidates they want into office. That's the short summary, but I'm looking forward to reading Burt Macklin's more-detailed report, once the FBI finally starts investigating the cartel.

5:48: Too many to name. And we haven't even been able to see the budget details to know just how many times this happens. The surveillance camera scandal I reported on this year, which cost taxpayers $21000, was NOT EVEN ITEMIZED IN THE STAFF REPORT the day the Council approved it!
ReplyDeleteBut here's a specific example - an immigration charity was given a huge budget increase voted for by George Leventhal. The director of that organization, presumably receiving a salary derived in part from that taxpayer-funded bonus, then made the maximum-allowed contribution to Leventhal's campaign. He's putting your money into his campaign account - and this was before he even passed the diabolical public financing bill to make us pay for campaigns.
