According to Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services records, code enforcement inspectors visited the new Pines of Rome location at 4918 Cordell Avenue this week, and have issued a code violation notice for the lighted sign that was added to the building. No sign permit was issued by the County for that installation, an inspector determined.
Inspectors also took issue with the new front entrance to the restaurant, which is now flush with the sidewalk, rather than recessed as it was for previous tenant Matuba. This means that the new front door opens outward into the public right-of-way. The relocated restaurant has been open for only ten days.
I love the sign. Bold, attention getting.
ReplyDeleteSuch a tacky sign.
DeleteI love the creativeness with the font they chose. Never seen that font used before!
ReplyDeleteThey should have bribed the inspector with some of their fresh-from-the-box Dececco pasta. That would change his mind right away!
The place is poppin every night with their loyal customers. Cordell is a much more lively and active street than the old block of Hampden they were on. Parking garage right down the street too.
ReplyDeleteLaugh at the sign, laugh at them using dry pasta, laugh at the basic font.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Mr Troiano is laughing all the way to the bank.
A busy little restaurant, paying rent to himself instead of Jemel. Keeping a locally owned place, well...local. They didn't run off to RockUp, WeSilSp, NoDam or any of those other peculiarly named new places.
Permits? Who needs permits? Seriously though, the door thing is sort of a big no no.
ReplyDeleteLegit will not eat here due to the amount of "news" coverage this place is getting. Sure the food isn't terrible, but the reporting and shitty advertising is.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Robert’s abundant coverage of this place lands it on my no way in heck I’ll eat there list.
ReplyDeleteScarily I agree. I don’t trust his food judgement based on his video reviews of fast food.
Delete1:54 PM You live in Frederick. How are eats up there?
ReplyDeleteNEver been to Frederick but enjoy the Voltaggio restaurants in DC. Appreciate the usual stuff in Bethesda (Olazzo, Gringos, Redwood can be hit or miss, and a few others). Would much rather head in to DC for a meal out - Barracks Row and Convention Center area have amazing new places. Never had Pines...Robert is so dismissive and negative to people that I couldn’t imagine going anywhere he covers...
Delete2:01 knows how to figure out who anonymous posters are and where they live? Now THAT is stalkerish and scary.
DeleteIf Robert Dyer had to pay his own housing costs, where could he afford to live? West Virginia? Kentucky? Hell of a commute. Maybe that's why he's not around so much these days.
ReplyDelete4:29 PM You live in Frederick. Nothing to be ashamed of.
ReplyDeleteThat’s as ridiculous as saying Dyer is a Virginian.
