"Westfield Montgomery Mall has been hit hard by the flight of wealthy Montgomery County residents to lower-tax jurisdictions in recent years. Once the crown jewel of what was called "Montgomery County's Beverly Center," the mall fronting I-270 and Democracy Boulevard is a jumble of shuttered storefronts and restaurants, with nearly 30 closing in he past 13 months alone."
ReplyDeleteDuh, duh, and duh. This is Bethesda and no-name, cheap-looking, fly by nights aren't going to make it. Anybody who's lived here more than 10 minutes knew as soon as these places opened that they were doomed.
ReplyDelete5:06: When's the last time you saw Ted Leonsis shopping at Macy's or Old Navy? The flight of the ultra-rich is not an issue with Montgomery Mall; that's not their target demographic.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your income/wealth threshold for "ultra-rich", and how many people who fit that category have left Montgomery County?
ReplyDeleteI notice you left out Nordstrom. At least the menswear department has high-end suits based on my most recent shopping experience.
ReplyDeleteWhere does Ted Leonsis go shopping then? My guess is a guy that rich has the retailer come to him at his office.
Sears is still open.
ReplyDeleteRobert Dyer in September 2016:
ReplyDelete"I never proclaimed it [Smashburger] was closing. I did report it is available for lease, which is a fact. You said Pizza Pass and Bethesda Barbeque weren't closing. They did. You said BBQ was reopening as a deli. It didn't. The record is clear. You got played. You were RickRolled by the angel investors, chump."
"The URL also shows that I never said it was closing; I linked to a report from another source. What a moron."

Hopefully the spreading of false information from other sites regarding Sears won't impact the store negatively long term. The fake news was spread around, so there are still folks who think Sears has closed.
ReplyDeleteThe retraction never gets as much attention as the original false story.
Sears should sue themselves for telling the state of Maryland that they were closing the Montgomery Mall store.
ReplyDeleteThey haven't left yet. Wealthiest City in Maryland: Chevy Chase Village
ReplyDeleteMedian home value: $1,823,800
Median household income: $250,001
Chevy Chase Village was a streetcar suburb to Washington, D.C. when it was founded in 1890. While the area is flooded with wealth, residents say they are more low key than people you might find in other neighborhoods favored by D.C. influentials, like Potomac. The city also has the best schools in the state, low crime rates and a very tight-knit community.

8:00: AND...Fake news again! You're talking about Maryland, not Montgomery County, yet again.
ReplyDeleteThe "most millionaires" you're referring to are in Howard County, not Montgomery County. Howard is on the Forbes Top 10 Richest Counties in America. Montgomery County fell off the list some years ago. Just plucking out Chevy Chase Village isn't enough to make up for all the rich who have fled to other counties (and you don't even cite your source for the irrelevant CC Village claim).
MCPS is in decline! And now being investigated for protecting sexual predators, to boot!
Beverly Centter??? LMAO, obviously Dyer hasnt been to the Beverly Center to even make such a comparison.. Tardoooo!!!!!
ReplyDelete9:15: Dyer is 100% correct - Howard County is on the Forbes top ten richest counties list. Montgomery isn't even on the list! You are the clown, bro!
