The effort to restore Hank Dietle's Tavern continues to gain momentum, after a February fire heavily damaged the landmark bar at 11010 Rockville Pike. Since the fire, volunteers have assisted in cleaning up debris, while awaiting the insurance funds that would go toward the restoration costs.

Now the bar is moving forward. A fire restoration permit has been requested from Montgomery County. The valuation of this phase of the restoration is cited as $15,000, according to the permit application. Hank's
official GoFundMe page raising money for the restoration has given $20,000 as the fundraising goal. Contributions are still being taken, if you would like to help.
Montgomery County, as a side note, is calling the legendary roadhouse "Deedle's Bar."

"Montgomery County, as a side note, is calling the legendary roadhouse 'Deedle's Bar.'"
ReplyDeleteHuh?
Yup. That's how you say it after a few rounds. I thought everyone knew that!
ReplyDeleteI just thought the sentence was odd.
ReplyDelete"Montgomery County is"? The MoCo Cartel? The Montgomery County Government? All residents of Montgomery County?
"Local residents" would have been more accurate.
And "Dietel's" and "Deedle's" are pronounced the same in American English.
I don't see how $15k could possibly come anywhere close to repairing that kind of damage.
ReplyDeleteGo fund me seems to be paid out to employees that did not help clean out the burned insides. Also paid was a musician that had old equipment, he claimed. The Owner,(a doctor), will not put in a claim?? The manager Tony is NOT the owner. The money donated has been used up! Now need a permit, to rebuild. With what money? This has been a scam to pay people not helping rebuild. Owner wants $10,000 a month rent, look out friendly fans.............
ReplyDeleteAnd I know for a fact that the doctor in question is a total jerk who screwed over Jeff Black on the original Addie's. Fool. Look what happened there? He'll never get another tenant there again. Back to Hank's. Not sure the place will ever reopen. Who got all that money they raised at the K of C recently?
DeleteThe K of C has become nothing but a pyramid scheme in which its members try to sell life insurance to each other.
Delete7:19 - Moron alert. The Knights of Columbus gives millions and millions of dollars a year to those in need and its councils across the country perform great works of charity both big and small. Get your facts right before you go mouthing off with some total nonsense. And oh by the way, the Hank's fundraiser they held was a smashing success that brought in a ton of support for the rebuild of this beloved Dive Bar.
DeleteI bet Hank's was part of what was in the redacted HQ2 files.
ReplyDeleteI bet that both Tastee Diner and Kaldi's will remain open.
ReplyDelete11:14: "Montgomery County" is Montgomery County government, in the permit database, where Hank's was misspelled as I described.
ReplyDeleteWhere? I’m looking at the repair permit right now.
DeleteWell, why didn't you say so explicitly? It sounded like you were quoting some drunk who used to patronize the place.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you capitalize Dive Bar, 10:17?
ReplyDelete10:57 - Why do you ask silly questions? Because I felt like it.
ReplyDelete11:05: Make silly syntax choices, get silly questions.
ReplyDeletePyramid scheme by day, bunch of old drunks by night.
ReplyDeleteNo help from the "Doctor Owner", no help from PAID former employees, no money for all the rebuild materials? Good people are donating. Doctor quack in the bush, has already screwed one business, and now benefits from the generosity, of a go f me !!! New permits will have to include sprinkler system, more money....Estimates of over $50K will be needed for rebuild??? Granted many have donated time, tools, and labor, but 3x that is needed! ALL TO HELP THE DOCTOR?????? I love the place, BUT................
