It also details what I had explained: The County's tax scheme deviously increases taxes automatically each year, in an attempt to trick the public into thinking the Council had nothing to do with it. In fact, as the announcement notes, in order to avoid the automatic tax increase, the Council would have to "reduce its real property tax rate enough to fully offset increasing assessments. The proposed budget does not provide such a reduction.

If you re-elect Helpless Hans Riemer and 3 new equally-controlled At-Large candidates chosen by the MoCo political cartel, wait until you see the tax increase you'll get in 2019, 2020, etc. A better choice would be to vote for Robert Dyer, who will offer a #DyerTaxCut, repealing the 2016 property tax and 2010 energy tax hikes incrementally over 4 years. Riemer's own former chief of staff recently noted that the energy tax hike appeared to have a devastating effect on the net number of new businesses created in Montgomery County this decade. MoCo had a net increase of only 6 new businesses, while D.C. and Fairfax enjoyed a net addition of 3000 new businesses each.
How much in property tax have you paid in your lifetime, Robert?
ReplyDeleteWe live in a tax and tax...spend and spend conunty. Our county leadership does not care what you think and will take action to increse your taxes and tell you they are not.
ReplyDeleteI will support Mr. Dyer for office.....he gets it.
We need to stop the tax and spend policies of MoCo.
More #AnonymousAttaboys.
ReplyDelete5:51: Likely more than you. You're living in a free dingy apartment paid for by the MoCo cartel. All the pizza you can eat! What a deal.
ReplyDeleteLooks like NoVa has its own version of the Silver Spring Transit Center:

And that's a shock to whom? Liberal Dems wanting to tax and spend our money when they said they wouldn't? No, I'm not shocked at all.
ReplyDeleteA tax cut would help get our local economy moving again.
ReplyDelete6:36: Yes - just imagine the negative impact a new property tax increase every year for the last 16 years has had on our local economy. No wonder we are at the bottom in our region in growth rate of new business startups since 2000.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a limit on raising property taxes? I think it's called the Ficker Amendment? How were they able to get around this?
ReplyDelete6:57: Yes - if they want to raise property taxes above the charter limit (as in 2016), it requires a unanimous vote by all 9 councilmembers.
ReplyDeleteHow come that newspaper article is all crumpled up?
ReplyDeleteDid you get it from the recycling bin, you Cheapskate?
Thanks for highlighting this on the blog. The "Other people's money" mentality needs to stop. Where is this tax money going? Clearly not to anything that is designed to make public space more livable. The deficit spending at the county level is mind boggling.
ReplyDeleteShocker!. Dems tax and spend and lie about not doing so? No, I'm not surprised one bit.
ReplyDeleteThe current County Council should adopt “Tax and Spend” as the County’s official motto.
ReplyDelete9:21 - Exactly. Why hide the fact that that's your MO? Come to MoCo where we will tax you out of existence.
DeleteEither you're dumb or you think your readers are dumb. The tax rate isn't going up at all - the tax receipts are what's going up (from new construction and from rising property values). It's called growth. It's a good thing in, literally, everyone's eyes except yours. This is why no one in their right mind will vote for you.
ReplyDelete9:31: You failed to read the text shown in the photos - it clearly states that if the Council fails to reduce property taxes by the specified amount, they will automatically increase. So, for the Council to fulfill their promise not to raise property taxes, they would have to reduce taxes by that amount. The text just as clearly states that the Council has chosen to not offer that reduction, and therefore property taxes will rise by the amount specified.
ReplyDeleteAre you illiterate? Unable to read the low-reading level text, and yet you call others "dumb."
People will vote for me because, unlike the current County Council, I'm telling the truth about taxes.
A property tax increase is "a good thing?" Just keep trying to convince yourself of that. LOL
This is how to speak if you want to sound retarded.
ReplyDeleteThis is how you talk if you do not want to sound retarded.
"People will vote for me because, unlike the current County Council, I'm telling the truth about taxes."
ReplyDeleteHave you ever actually paid any property taxes?
9:49: Your link to Helpless Hans Riemer's speech hurt his struggling reelection campaign in two ways - 1) A self-proclaimed Riemer supporter is still using the R-word in 2018, and 2) It's the speech in which he infamously lied about the distance of Westbard from the nearest Metro stations, and was fact-checked by the Washington Post.
ReplyDeleteClown move, bro!
9:50: I've paid more than you - you're living in a free dingy apartment paid for by the MoCo political cartel in exchange for typing these childish troll comments online all day. That's pretty pathetic, old sport.
Hans Riemer: "Westbard is just a mile from two metro stations and the District line."
ReplyDeleteBill Turkey and Robert Dyer: “The shopping center is actually 2.2 miles from the Friendship Heights Metro station and 3.3 miles from the Bethesda stop.”
Per Google Maps:
Distance from the shopping center to the Friendship Heights Metro station: 1.5 miles (closer to 1.0-1.2 miles if pedestrian shortcuts can be built between the shopping center and Willard Avenue, bypassing the poorly connected existing street grid.)
Distance from the shopping center to the Bethesda Metro station (following Capital Crescent Trail, to new south entrance to Bethesda station): 1.6-1.8 miles.
Both distances are closer to Riemer's estimate than to Turkey's estimate.
Also, Riemer never said, as Dyer frequently claims, that the stations are "within walking distance".
10:15: Even Google Maps shows both being 2 and 3 miles, respectively. You have to use roads and sidewalks to get there; you can't just magically float over the houses and other obstacles.
ReplyDeleteYour measurements are so off, it's ridiculous. 1.6 miles to Bethesda Metro Center from Westwood Shopping Center? LOL
What a joke.
@ 10:15 AM here. I used Westbard Avenue, Ridgefield Road, River Road, the Capital Crescent Trail to the new Metro entrance being built at Elm Street, to get my estimate of 1.6-1.8 miles.
ReplyDeleteWhat roads did you use to get "3 miles", Robert?
10:34: Not only are your distances wrong, but you can't drive your car on the CCT. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd as you admitted, neither Metro is walking distance from Westwood Shopping Center. So unless you're planning on getting arrested by Park Police, you can't use the CCT as a vehicle route.
Just admit that you and Helpless Hans were wrong, old sport.
Your measurements are so off, it's ridiculous. 1.6 miles to Bethesda Metro Center from Westwood Shopping Center? LOL
ReplyDeleteDyer is correct, it's not 1.6 miles.
It's 1.7 miles.
10:41: You're wrong, too, old sport. It's about 3 miles. Sad that Helpless Hans Riemer and his supporters are so mathematically-challenged. No wonder we have a $208,000,000 budget shortfall. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat roads did you use to get "3 miles", Robert? (Asking a second time.)
ReplyDeleteI used the Capital Crescent Trail because I was focusing on the distance to pedestrians. If you use Little Falls Parkway and Arlington Road, that only ads about 0.2 miles to the distance. It certainly does not make the distance "3.3 miles" or even "3 miles".
And once again, Hans Riemer never said that either station was "within walking distance". You are putting words in his mouth, as usual.
If you're going to cut taxes as you promise, this will make the deficit even larger. How do you propose to close the gap? And how do you propose to improve scholastic achievement while lowering the education budget?
ReplyDeleteA reminder... 1.5 miles is closer to "a mile" than it is to "2.2 miles".
ReplyDeleteAnd 1.7 miles is a lot closer to "one mile" than it is to "3.3 miles" or even "3 moles".

ReplyDelete11:24am is always very tough online, but is very scared and never engages Dyer while attending the same public meetings offline. Why is that?

ReplyDelete11:50am your online bully routine was stale years ago.
DeleteThe "tough guy at the keyboard" thing is deeply embarrassing.
If you can't say something in public, why post it here?
I thought this blog had "tens of thousands" of readers. Doesn't that make it "public"?
ReplyDeleteBut since you brought it up, has Robert Dyer ever said any of his crazier allegations about Hans Riemer, to Riemer's face? What, he hasn't? Maybe he's "the coward hiding behind the keyboard".
12:22pm Dyer has debated Riemer several times and will again this year.
DeleteWill you emerge from your hole and attend?
I don’t think Hans Reimer even knows who Dyer is. He likely tunes out Robert’s delusions and rants and let’s be honest - robert has never been taken serious enough as a candidate for Hans to know who he is. It’s sad. Robert - seriously you look foolish.
DeleteHas Dyer ever mentioned his allegations of "the cemetery precincts came in strong" and "illegal flyers" "Wall Street sugar daddies" and "quid pro quo" to Hans Riemer's face? If not, then it is Dyer who is a coward hiding behind a keyboard.
ReplyDeleteIs the MyMCMedia debate still posted? Riemer looked like he wet his pants by the end.
DeleteNot-So-Anonymous "Woodmont" said @ 11:43 AM:
ReplyDelete"11:24am is always very tough online, but is very scared and never engages Dyer while attending the same public meetings offline. Why is that? 11:24am is a classic keyboard cowboy"
Who do you imagine that 11:24 AM is, "Woodmont"? And what are these "public meetings" that you have attended with both Robert Dyer and him?
Riemer should stock up on adult diapers before his debate with Dyer.
ReplyDeleteHans soaked himself at the MyMCMedia debate, live on TV.
Riemer won and ended up being arrested.
DeleteTerrible example and unfit to lead.
3:57pm Riemer has an insecure bladder.
ReplyDeleteHe got nervous and peed himself.
6:11 PM Riemer pissed his pants on live TV while debating Robert Dyer.
ReplyDeleteHans Riemer has an arrest record.
Hans Riemer has inflated his resume.
Will the Riemers buy big boy diapers for Hans before the next debate this year?
10:47: Wait a minute, you're admitting the Bethesda Metro station isn't within walking distance of Westwood Shopping Center, but using a walking trail as your route to make the distance falsely seem shorter?
ReplyDeleteYou and Hans have both been proven wrong by me, Google Maps and Bill Turque of the Washington Post. Your numbers are totally fake. Just repeating a number, especially one that readers can quickly verify is false using Google Maps, doesn't make it true.
10:49: I never said I was cutting school funds, but we will cut non-classroom funds to administrators if schools don't meet performance targets, if I am elected. There's plenty to cut elsewhere, and I will propose moving to Zero-Based Budgeting for the general fund. That's why the tax cuts are spread over 4 years, so we can make the other changes simultaneously and address out-of-control debt.
11:00: But those numbers are fake, just like Helpless Hans Riemer's resume.

DeleteReimer, Reimer, Reimer! Dyer's envy is palpable.
ReplyDelete"Nothing can allay the rage of biting envy." - Claudian (Claudianus)
4:07: I don't envy a man with no accomplishments whose supporters research, dox, and threaten family members (even elderly and deceased family members!) of his political opponent. That's beyond the pale, and, wow, what a story that's going to be in the election this year. Big mistake.
ReplyDelete"Slander is the only way some have of feeling close to accomplishment."
ReplyDeleteBut, but, but....Reimer!
5:05: That's right - because, as the Washington Post editorial board noted, Helpless Hans Riemer has no accomplishments. And every issue he has tackled with great fanfare from his friends in the local media has ended in complete disaster. So this is why his supporter is slandering me and my family?
ReplyDeleteYou don't that person is a supporter. They're anonymous.
ReplyDeleteThat's why you will never, never accuse Reimer in public. You know it's convoluted gossip you use to defame ONE LONE COMPETITOR.
The one you hang all your troubles on.
"Envy shoots at others and wounds itself." -English Proverb
5:51: Why would I be talking about the councilmembers who are leaving due to term limits? They're not running against me. Of course Riemer would be discussed as an opponent.
ReplyDeleteThe troll has proclaimed himself a Riemer supporter, not me.
I saw that...you completely deflected from the accusing in public statement.
ReplyDeleteSo now, you're believing anonymous trolls?
ReplyDeleteBut won't believe that I'm who I say I am.
Not the kind of judgement one wants in a council member.
5:57: Read the "Robert was right" section on my website RobertDyer.net where it compares my position on various issues vs. the Council's, and then who was proven right in each case. You'll quickly learn to trust my judgement over the Council's after reading it. In fact, at least 11 County residents who died thanks to the Council's incompetence would still be alive today if I had been elected in 2014.

The above is an example of the HYPOTHESIS CONTRARY TO FACT FALLACY: "This fallacy consists of offering a poorly supported claim about what might have happened in the past or future if circumstances or conditions were other than they actually were or are. The fallacy also involves treating hypothetical situations as if they were fact."
ReplyDelete"As the Washington Post editorial board noted, Helpless Hans Riemer has no accomplishments."
ReplyDeleteThat's not what the Post said at all.
It's hard to take seriously your claims of being a journalist, when you can't quote anyone you cite with the slightest bit of accuracy.
7:46: That was exactly what the Post said, when the board retracted their endorsement of Helpless Hans Riemer. You obviously never saw the editorial.
ReplyDelete7:29: Thanks for the update, Saul Alinsky.
As I have pointed out in the past, the Post did not “retract” ther endorsement. Either you don’t know the meaning of the word “retract” or you are lying.
DeleteHans Riemer's supporters threatening another candidate should be bigger news.
ReplyDeleteWill Hans Riemer disavow the personal threats? Should be asked by reporters and in debates.
